Been there, with other multi's low, raising bclock by 10 until 200 and VTT if needed (at 200 i needed 1.295) i then increased ram multi to 8 for 1600 uncore 16 (3200) and I needed the bump the VTT up a notch (1.315) these were just 5 passes of LinX so not gospel

Soon as I increase the CPU multi it tends to lock 80% of the time in under 16s (CPU usage low 12%) if i up the vcore to 1.264 it would do 3GHz

I think after a long day I got pissed off and put the vcore up highish 1.4 with loadline enabled and it still locked up

I noticed the lock up early on when under low load, my theory was the leave loadline off so the idle voltage higher thinking that would help

Haven't had the time, but ill try disabling speed-step etc tonight

    Thanks

Hey guys, F8b with 920 C0. What settings do you recommend (wanna break the 200BCLK barrier).

    OCZ Platinum 6GB 1600Mhz
    Gigabyte UD5
    Corsair HX 1000

Is it better to do the overclock through the BIOS or is Easy Tune fine too?

Question I want to buy a Ud5, I love Gigabyte's products. Now I want to know with the Ud5 or extreme, does the CPU throttle down when you pick the x21 multiplier when the CPU is under load with 4 cores or 8 threads (HT on). Some motherboards have the CPU throttle the multiplier down to x20 when under load although the x21 is picked in the BIOS. Can you turn turbo off and still be able to manually pick a CPU ratio of 21, and use that? If so does the throttling happen when stressing the system or testing for stability, LinX or Prime95 or Burn test?

Turbo throttling is mostly an Asus P6T issue. They've released a bios fix for the v1 boards and are hopefully working on a few more bios releases. Most boards let you either turn this feature off or its automatically disabled. With the newer Gigabyte bios versions, a UD5 or extreme doesn't have this issue. rge did some testing for me using his Gigabyte extreme board.

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...52&postcount=5

If you have a 920 processor, whether the bios lets you pick a 21X multi or makes you select Turbo mode doesn't really matter. The CPU ends up doing the same thing. Anything beyond a 20X multiplier with this CPU means that the CPU is in Turbo mode.

Dunno about your settings, but I have always found it better to clock through the BIOS (personal opinion)

the new ud5 and extreme bios's (F8c and F8e) do not have the 1.20E AHCI rom

Serial ATA AHCI BIOS, Version iSrc 1.07 08042006

[edit] modded them with latest AHCI (1.20E) and RAID (v8.5.0.1030) roms

    Pyr0 to the rescue again

Apparently, there are two versions of F8e and F8c, one with older AHCI and one with the 1.20E one, but stasio got sent only the ones with the older AHCI, no idea why...

Anyway, I am wondering as well about the "fixed D0 stepping CPUs" - and as I've read on another board the guy who provided the new bioses writes it's a fix for "D0 CPU OC"???

I'm running a D0 and I haven't seen anything like that? Or perhaps I'll be proven wrong with a higher oc, sure hope so

Perhaps its an uber-bios that lowers voltage requirement for 4ghz to 1.0v

What is the better board for overclocking the i7, the DFI UT or the UD5? Also what are the major differences between the UD5 and the Extreme, is it just the extra heatsink with the heatpipes that goes on the IOH heatsink? Looks like it just plugs into the Watercooling holes. Anyway I am confused whether to buy a UD5 or a DFI UT, I know DFI is nice and the GIGAbyte makes a very nice board. The Results speak for themselves, although are they easy to work with? Are they faulty like the DFI's or the solid? If anyone has owned both let me know what you think is better. Also is the extreme worth the 35 bucks over the UD5, or is the UD4 just as good as the UD5?

    hi

i have the ud5 and is the first gigabyte motheboard i have had
    good overclocker 21 x 200 = 4200 no problems
look at changing to the dfi but why
the ud5 works well with little bios changes
the dfi can go a little bit further but with alot of work in the bios
    cheers

They aren't Identical, But very similar, they work togehter for say, 95%
I'm sure there are SOME small settings that can vary.

Welp I guess I can say I am a new UD5 owner. I will be getting my motherboard in the mail I hope by Friday. So I will post up some overclocks then. I am so pumped about this board.

Well, the boards are the same, the only difference is the big and cool heatsink. Is Ex´s BIOS better?

Actually the difference between UD5 and the extreme is only the heatsink, so you can definately say they are indeed IDENTICAL, hardware wise.

BIOSes are completely the same... just marked differently.
I'm running F8E bios for the extreme on my UD5 board, every single option is identical to the UD5, just model name and boot logo are different. Nothing less, nothing more.

    hi
the DFI can get to 235 where as the best i seen the ud5 is 231
but you very extreme cooling for that ie 21 x 235 4935
also i have read that the dfi voltage reg get very hot
i would say the ud5 is the best motherboard i have had easy to work with and very stable
