    That means jack.. a portuguese store has had a "HD4890" in their website for 3 weeks now.

    That could very well be just a fabrication from the store, based on rumours around the web.
    Many stores do that to get more hits and pre-orders.

    Sapphire Radeon HD4890 can be found at Netherlands-based Salland at just under 250 Euro (...)
    Didn't Salland list HD5870X2 a few months back?

    edit:
    Oh yes they did...

    ATi/AMD has really gotten the smoke and mirrors down pat when it comes to their higher end chips eh?

    Conflicting rumors seem to be EVERYWHERE!

    Core 2 Duo(Conroe) was based on the Intel Core Duo(Yonah) which was based on the Pentium M(Banias) which was based on the Pentium III(Coppermine).

    Core 2 Duo is a Pentium III on meth.

    Even if the 4890 turns out a dud, this is very amazing, so close to launch and noone has any certain information

    AMD really fooled everyone with the RV770 specs.
    That's part of the reason why there's so much hype about what RV790 will be. An information and disinformation war of this rate is a first among GPU announcements, that's for sure.

    so its basically an overclocked hd4870 with better idle consumption?

    looks ok, but not at a 250€ price point (more like 200€); should beat gtx260 216sp

    interesting, that gpu-z cant read out memory bandwidth and size correctly...
    (and someone is being pretty informative.... but as long as its a mass production card he shouldnt get caught^^)

    GPU-z is nothing more than a datatbase, for the most part, only a few things are actually collected from the hardware/software.
    Which means we still don't know exactly what RV790 is...

    but shouldnt it at least read out the bandwidth correctly, the card seems very similar to hd4870

    the chip information themselves are of course stored in database and are read through device id

    How is it suppose to know the size of the interface?

    What we know so far:

    1- Same PCB (or at least very similar) as HD4870;
    2- 2*6 pin connector;
    3- 240Mhz (!!!) idle speed (I guess the rumours about the PowerPlay revision were true)
    4- Same cooler
    5- ATI OC Utility shows a max overclock of 1Ghz;
    6- It's called 4890 and not 49xx.

    Performance figures and design changes are only guesses right now.

    And here's the first boxart:

    I found it in Fudzilla. I don't know where they got it, though.

    Not the same cooler, it is an updated cooler.
    Suppose to be a 3 heatpipe HS vs the 2 heatpipe heatsink of 4870.

    From what I could see, the idle temp was 59°C at 24% fan speed. What's the 4870 idle temp at that fan speed anyone? Should be an indicator of how much better the powerplay is working.

    I am utterly horrified to see the memory is still not affected by Powerplay!
    It's just useless to slow down the GPU speed as memory is the idle powerhog on these cards.

    I don't think you realise "RAMDAC" has absolutely nothing to do with the memory you see on a video card.
    And, there's only 8 GDDR5 chips on those cards...

    ugh yes sorry, It just seems more distinguished in that pic than the 4870... it is the same.

    that said I have just compared and the mem/gpu area is the same. but the PWM area is vastly different.

    For the ATI Guru's: Will the HD4890 X2 follow the single GPU sister launch on April too?
