I'm just wondering for everyone that has an Gigabyte UD5 motherboard and has overclocked their BCLK to over 180 if your system's posts a few times before actually booting into windows on cold boots?

I find that if I raise my VTT voltage over 1.28V and have my BCLK overclocked it will actually turn on the system for a few secs then shut down and restart again and then finally post. Even when its below this threshold the 2 digit display on the motherboard will reset a few times before it successfully posts without having to completely shut down and restart.

Just wondering if this was normal behavior. I'm using the F5e bios right now.

    Thanks!

I know my Extreme version does a double post when I have it overclocked, not sure what point it started at. It will start up part way for about 5 sec, then power down and start again. I really notice it on my build because I hear my pump fire up, stop suddenly, then fire up again.

AFAIK they all do this, whether it is memory strap or what that causes it I don't know.

anyone else notice it take unusually long at the IDE device loading portion of the bios screen? Sits there for about 20 seconds, I thought it was frozen the first time it did it.

I have to ask about this QPI/VTT...have any one measured the real volt? I have noticed that most of us using this board have to raise it over 1.35V (intels max recom.) to OC over 4GHz. I had to with my 920.....1.4V was perfect. With this 965 I can see the same behaviour....up to 4GHz it rather easy......but after that!? With other board as R2E for example they run below 1.3V. I have a nice chip but it need lot more voltage on this board than on R2E.

Forgive me for I haven't had time to go through all 77 pages of this.

But could someone sum up all the current problems with the EX58 UD5 using the latest bios?

I haven't had a lot of time to play around, 180x20 went pretty smooth, but getting to 190 has been a mass of BSODs. I've never seen this many blue screens trying to tune a board. On all my other boards the stress testing app would let me know there was an error, this board just gives a BSOD or reboots itself It's kind of frustrating, tuning is a lot harder when the machine hides information from you. Maybe I am having more trouble since I am using 6GB with HT still turned on, it seems a lot of folks are only running 3GB.
you need more qpi/vtt voltage, i can run 215mhz with 12gb if i give enough qpi/vtt voltage, for 24/7 im on 1.375V with 12gb, anything less is unstable.

I have the same experience, maybe not the same number but close to. Latest BIOS I tested with was F5e I think. I just sold my CPU so I cannot do a comparision with F5g on the Extreme board.

Yes I noticed this, I have an IDE hard drive on UD3R and I thought it had froze up at boot and reset it the first time. After waiting awhile it will finally boot...

Easytune worked OK on my Vista Business x64 but I uninstalled all the Gigabyte utilities. That update prompt on every boot (with no new version available) was annoying the crap out of me.

Well, I am having memory issues with my board. I can get my ram memtest stable but not in windows. I flashed to the F4 bios to see if that would help, and so far it hasn't. Here are my settings:

    for DDR1910:
    CPU Ratio 20
    Turbo and HT both Enabled
    QPI Link 36x
    Uncore 20x (3820)
    Isosync On
    Bclk 191
    Perforance: Std.
    Spd 10
    Timings 8 8 8 20 1t
    Loadline Enable
    Vcore 1.40625
    QPI 1.395
    IOH Auto
    VDIMM 1.75

These settings are memtest stable for at least 30 passes of test 5 (that's all I've run up to now). I've also tried DDR 1528 with no luck as well. The only differences in the settings are:
    SPD 8
    Timings 7 7 7 20 1t
    VTT 1.375
    VDIMM 1.66

This issue is starting to drive me a little crazy.

What ram are you using and what is stock for it? Have you tried 1528mhz at 8,8,8,24 1t, uncore 16 or 17x along with VTT1.375 and VDIMM 1.66. If that is stable, then you can work from there or is your ram stock CAS 7 at 1600 like mine, and therefore should work at 1.65Vdimm at CAS 7.

I left them on auto as well. This is on the UD4P and i920 3842A310 @ 200x21 1.5vcore. These chips get HOT. None of the C2Qs got near 50c stressed with my water loop. This puppy just passed 50c after 45mins of P95 small FFT.
