If you wonder why your Opteron with good stepping doesn't overclock as it should, then the reason maybe a bad contact between IHS and core:

i like my cpus alive, thank you... seriously though, i strongly doubt i have a steady enough hand to delid my cpu without slicing off a resistor. its really tempting though, cause my ihs mount seems terrible and the hotter core is always holding me back...

It isn't that difficult, as long as you realize that you don't have another go I busted my 3800+ x2 when I accidently broke off a couple pins underneath it, so I practiced on it, and yes I did cut off a resistor! So I actually managed to break it TWICE! But either way, I didn't break the next cpu

Is long as you push upward toward the lid you'll stay away from the electronics. My first time I went around it about four times, getting deeper each time, until it came off. Just take your time and relax, you'll do fine.

As for bending the pins, I put my CPU back in it's shipping tray and worked on it that way. It's a little more awkward because the lid is kinda' in the way but that black cushion and the plastic bottom keeps the pins safe ...

I get always those pins bent (this time about 5-7), but they are rather easy to straighten, and when cpu is in the socket, it doesn't matter anymore

A friend of mine has a utility knife (I think that's the right word for it), with a "special" blade. It's perfect for cutting IHS's, he can't damage any resistors even if he tries to. At least not on Toledo cores.

    LCBQE 0722RPAW.

I'm really looking forward testing this beauty. a mate @ a german board has an Opteron 170 with the same MC (LCBQE) bur one week younger (0715) running at 3100Mhz and 1.4V - on air! Oo

Anyone of you any experiences with LCBQE?

Doh, I tried remounting my Swiftech Apogee three times. Still the temp of the cores is couple degrees different. Under 1.6V @ 2,92 Ghz

1.6V for a DC is waaay to much dude. The Core difference is normal, not all sensors are calibrated correctly. So the difference does not have to be true. It can also be, that your DIE is not 100% even or the cooler

I bought a 3000+ singlecore real cheap some months ago. It had obviosly been overclocked since it was sold with the IHS cut off, but the guy I bought it from said it was his friend that did it, and he got aprox 2.4~2.5 GHz out of it (stock 1.8 GHz). I slapped on some AS5, remounted the IHS with some superglue, and laid it to rest on a shelf, found out later that it was some sort of superstepping and decided to try it out, and actually got 2.8 GHz out of it. Now, reading all this, I kinda figure that the reason I got 3-400 MHz more out it COULD have been a poor mounting without IHS and maybe some other kind of paste. Repeat, COULD....

And yes.... when IHS was on from factory, it also could have been a bad IHS-mount

1.55 is my limit.. 1.6 only for checking out if it really is true that it doesn't do more. 1.45~1.5 tops for 24/7 oc -> in my book that is... but some people say 1.55 also ok... but 1.6... to much...!

    It's not 1 week difference, but 7

Your stepping is the newest available, so if you want to see results you have to wait... or much better: OC yourself and tell US how great it is

It's probably quite good, but most of the new ones are very hot I think - so on air... maybe you can get some nice clocks, but I doubt you can give it too much juice because of the temps.

I'd love to test myself, but I will get the Ultra-D and some good Micron Chips in september. I'll have to wait till that time.

And yes, its 7 weeks, not 1 lol

I cool with water, and maybe the IHs is getting off

looks to be a bit better than my chip, id guess 2.95 @1.4-1.425 and 3ghz at 1.5.. if your brave then 3.1+ may be doable on that LCBQE 0711, (i can get 3.1 @ 1.65v game/app stable or 1.7v prime stable...

    Oh that's some nice information.

A user @ forumdeluxx.de has a LCBQE 0715 and he can hit 3.1Ghz with 1.400V (on air - with IHS). I just bought a LCBQE 0722RPAW. I hope mine goes this good as well, a DFI SLI-DR Venus is also on the way to me

Will also chop the IHS down and use a really strong watercooling. I'm really looking forward to it ... can't wait to test!
