I see what I see, and you see what you see. I can't make you see what I see, but I can tell you what I see is not what you see. Truth is, we see what we want to see, and what we want to see is what those around us see. And what we don't see is... well, conspiracies.

Yes.. HD 2900 XT (there won't be any other models) will compete against GTS.

Yeah Sampsa, thats true, but seeing these scores lately, i don't think that even hard clocked GTS can match 29XT. And new drivers will bring better performance for 29XT, that will make GTS fall behind by large margin.

True in 3dmark, not true in games.

Ouch, so those 3dmark scores are no indication of in game performance? That would suck mucho.

I had a feeling it was going to be that way and with Sampsa himself more or less saying the same thing I am not looking forward to the gaming results with this card. If all you do is run 06 than this card is for you otherwise its Nvidia or another 4 month wait for ATI's 'refresh' offering.

ati went with stability first with the drivers.

I'd say they had plenty of time to produce stable and fast drivers, this would give credit to Brother Esau's perpetual rant about their drivers programmers, it's not any better at Nvidia right now tho'.

I just tested with a waterblock without shim and it works fine if you tighten the bults really really hard

Glad to hear ordering a water setup soon and wanted to make sure so I can hopefully prep the case before the card arrives. Thanks Kinc.

hello again kinc, when you say without the shim do you mean the shim on the card itself around the gpu or the shim you put in to fill the 1mm gap , so as long as the gpu waterblock is bolted tight a thin shim may not be required, if you could confirm that that'd be grat, keep up the good work

Sorry I ment without the coldplate. The waterblock I am using covers the shim around the gpu wich is slighty higher then the die. I did a test where i first tightend the bolts like I usually do and wasnt quite happy with the contact. I tested too tighten a bit more (I stopped when the pcb started to bend ), and the contact was as good as ever. I am still recomendng you to use a coldplate so you minimize the risk of dmaging the card.

thanks kinc i have been looking all over for some 1 mm copper sheet with no luck so hopefully i'll get away with not using one, i know your busy but i appreciate you taking the time to answer, a pair of these should work well in my old p5w-dh , thanks again, you're still the man Oh on a side note would you recommend using ram sinks on the upper side of the card as well,as the ram chips are on both sides on these or is this not really neccessary with these thanks

If you have an old cpu cooler or other heatsink with thin copper or aluminium fins you can rip that appart, thats what I did

Can I get back to the earlier point about synthetic benchies vs real world gaming?

What do we think the real world gaming / 3d performance is gonna be like on these *mystery* cards...sky high or dive bomb?
