Mwave is out of the X1800 Xt and the price for retail is down to $567

I think either Major or mdzcpa is running a SLI 510 w/ their FX-57 @ 3.5ghz and 2x cards in SLI mode with raid0.

So if FCG, check his sig ^^

I will be buying this PSU also PCP&C makes awesome psus.

Yeah the 510 SLI is great. I've had mine for almost a year now.

I will be interested when someone tries this. I have built multiple 7800 GTX 256MB systems with FX57. CPU OC'd to 3Ghz and both cards OC'd. I had no issues running with a NEO 480. The 512MB cards everything else set back to stock brought the PSU to its knees when running 3d. The SLI510 is a better PSU and slightly higher watt rating. Should be interesting. BTW The 512MB cards pull about 22A so keep that in mind. (The NEO is 18A per 12V rail.)

I doubt they'll be available on the same day as the US release, normally a few weeks after. Speaking from past experience though, don't know about this one.

shimmering was fixed several driver updates ago....as another member on these forums would put it "welcome to two months ago"

imo shimmering wasn't fixed - it has just been reduced... even if one is using "high quality"-mode there's a shimmering - hardly noticeable, but it's there.
whatever, it's an big improvement compared to the 77.xx-series; but how i said, in some games (for example battlefield 2) little shimmering is still noticeable.

personally i don't care about this little shimmering, because it requieres a really close look to notice it, but imho it's wrong to say the shimmering is gone/fixed.

at that level of shimmering the X800 cards wouldn't look any better. Many people forget that the X800 series uses the same type of AF algorithm, and thus gets shimmering. The amount of shimmering is debatable, but at high quality on any GF6-7 card, the quality is just as good, if not better than what ATI's last gen can pull.

ATI's X1000 series has the advantage of using both types of AF, and at HQ mode there is no texture aliasing to be had.

the last radeon i saw in action was a 9700pro so i have no clue whether the image quality of the radeons is good or not. i just know what i see with my 7800gt :P
and i know that this little "shimmering" doesn't appear on my old gf3ti500 and gffx5900xt.

no, it wouldn't appear on GF3, GF4, or FX cards because they used angle-independent algorithms which had much better IQ, but worse performance.

The Radeon 9700 Pro had the same thing. In fact ATI didn't start using angle dependent algorithms until the Radeon 9600. That was just a test. They put it in under full employment with the X800 series.

For everyone who claims that shimmering has been "fixed", please let me know which drivers you are using, because I have over a dozen games with shimmering. In most the shimmering can be reduced to hardly noticable level by using HQ driver setting, HOWEVER, with my 6800, that typically means massive performance reduction. And its not just one or two fps. I can consistently show you how framerate goes from ~60 to ~30 in the same exact spot in UT2003.

And nvidia optimizations aren't responsible for "just" shimmering. One of them makes trilinear boundaries really coarse so you see a moving band where mip-maps transistion, the second is responsible for shimmering, and the third (the worst) only shows detailed textures in close proximity... further out they just abruptly stop.

The funny thing is, these issues are practically non-existent in 71.89 drivers. Its just in the newer ones (77.77 78.01, 78.03 81.85 81.87) where you get these problems.

And I have yet to find a nVidia driver which perfectly renders BF2 everywhere.. .the shadows do a weird step moving effect, and oddly disappear and re-appear depending on the angle.

This thread isn't on shimmering, so lets park that car on the side lane and hope that the actual topic gives us a lift to where this thread is supposed to go

Results should be coming very soon...

Wow that is amazing... really amazing.

Those of us with hefty CPU's are going to have a field day with it... i'd be interested in seeing the card compared to a 7800GT SLI setup though, guess we'll have to wait for the reviews later today.
