OPB 's perspective of DFI SLI-DR Expert

**UPDATE: For those who got the board and ready to rock, check this:

Besure just plug in your ATX power and 12v 8 pins connector, listen very carefully for the chipset area. and turn on the psu swich on the rear side of the PSU. See if there is the weird sound like high frequency air blow, if yes. don't put your CPU on.

Well, I know what you guys want. I start this thread is not what I wanna show off but help

all users. So let's start it. I will post some pictures later.

    Preview:

As far as I just talked to Oskar tonight, I was kinda surprised that he give me the hint that
the memory timings for expert board and focus have been totally changed. Consequently,

for those who are kinda lazy to find the best setting by just copy all from old nf4 series, you

will be sorry I promise you. especially the TCCD users

So what has been changed? yes, it all about "driving strength", you gotta try every setting

bios have. It might take some time to find the best setting.
So I ask oskar, what would be the key point about all the ram section tune up?
    "It's all up to Vdimm".
He told me that answer I really believe that!!
" For the Vidmm on the old nf4 series, which is abnormal that specially tune up for TCCD so

that cause problem for other types of ram. Therefore, I was thinking about the balance

and adjust something back! After carefully concern, still gave TCCD up ()

    So, Oskar's conclusion is :

If you have BH/CH/UTT or even other types RAM, there is no surprised that

you will get higher performance or some more FSB than previous DFI nf4 board.

That's it? NO.., the other hint is Vcore WILL be more stable than old NF4 series as well.
(not just little amount of stable)

what about for extremely overclocker's concern, cold bug? Thank you for Tony's

suggestion, however, Oskar has no such crazy cold cascade can try. and I will give that a

    try .

** Stay tune for next few hours about compatibilty and bios setting tune up bench.**

    ************************************************** ********

    **11/12 update.

How to run TCCD 4 dimm 2t DDR600, ya I mean any TCCD, not just some sepcific brand on the Expert version:

Oskar just let me know of that and show me the picture from his 3000+ and any tccd 4x512mb, and by te moment he show me this it's under super pi running.

I only can say what he told me, not try to hide something.
Driving strength 10~15 is better for two dimms.

    ************************************************** *******
    **[color=red]11/14/2005 update,

** below is BH/ch UTT type and TCCD setting I got for the general purpose
you guys can take a reference.

**Driving/data--->11/4, 166 divider, ram running @250mhz; and look at that

    BH/CH/UTT:

    bios date and model #

TCCD DDR610 dual super pi 8m action and a64tweaker.
the cpu frequcy showing on the mbm5 is wrong**
Driving & data strength using: 10/4

    ************************************************** ******

    11/16/2005 OPB@hotel:

from the prediction, then now I can show you guys this:
be notice then, the trtw can be 1 now up to 260 for sure.
    driving &data strength: 8/4

    ************************************************** *******
    11/16 updated@ hotel

test on 2gb Team group Micron
look at the TRFC, MAL RP, also the vdimm on this...holy smokes..no extra cooling.

** I will have some other chip for 2gb set coming up

    1m:

    8m:

    32m in the mid:

    32m finished,

    ************************************************** ****
    11/18/2005 update. 4dimm 512mb 2 different brand names for ddr 520 2-2-2-5.
ya mix them , no kidding
Will do 32m later. (these 4 dimm are not the best bh I got)

cpuz, take a look if 4 dimm got different brand

i thought dfi had the extreme overclockers test the samples before they went into production
thats the best idea i thought they ever had
the extremists have clearly been very good to dfi as they are now an extremely well know brand

if i was them i would order a nice cascade from a respected builder and teach their engineers how to use it
especially since the cold bug is now the limiting factor for extreme overclocking
and this situation does not appear to be resolving itself anytime soon

Great idea, but now, for the driving and data strength set as 1/1 in terms of "cold-bug" solution is merely an assumption.

the fixing if the sub-zero issue would be a nice feature ,too.

    i want one too!

also, am i reading what you wrote correctly, and the Expert isn't optimized for TCCD as much as the older dfi nf4 boards? if so, that's a very interesting move on DFI's part. I suppose the popularity of 1gb sticks recently may have effected this greatly. how about testing those Xtreem sticks you got recently in this Expert?

    good luck with it Kevin
Got a fan over those memory sticks? No? Well get to it before you kill them

Hmm I guess I need someone to donate me some BH/CH/UTT sinds I'm one of the few people who has it.
And that about the old tune up guide for tccd not proplerly working any more , thats really intressintg since I used that today and got my memory much higher that i've gotten before ( but then again that was an crapy abit an8 fatal1ty sli). Got to +- 300mhz , but still tweaking out here.
