The semantics of ThoroughBred's part "B".

I wanted to reiterate my last reply under morphling1's post "...JIUHB 52 week madness..." (here) and the implications of exponentially confusing articles regarding ThoroughBred performance based upon recent stepping's "A" vs "J." In Ed Stroligo's recent artcile titled "Just not good enough for overclocking." he states the following;
"The lower performance of even recent "J" chips indicates that AMD's speed bins for the TBredBs haven't been all too good (though good enough for now).

This could change, but for now, I think you have to treat chips beginning with "J" as Just not good enough for high-end overclockers.

There is nothing wrong or evil with AMD selling these chips; I'm sure they work perfectly fine at their rated speeds, and that's 98-99% of AMD's market.

These chips are supposed to be the next Durons, anyway, so AMD can end up with plenty of these for some time to come with no problem.

What would be wrong is you buying one. At least AMD is nice enough to provide an indicator that these aren't primo chips. You ought to take advantage of that."
I have the utmost respect for Ed Strogilo, (may have learned more from his articles then any other) I just wanted to point out, we may be missing something here, in that the J in "Just not good enough..." may become the J in Juxtaposition from "Low Bred" to "High Bred" quoting his most recent artcile. Seeing as morphling1 reached 2524MHz @ 2.1V stable, and most people are comPlaining they onLy reach 2.0GHz from their "Low Bred"s, I'd say these chips slated for the "Duron" pile, are an indicator AMD is most definately "in the Zone." And in so far as TBred's are concerned, I think there may be some misconceptions due to the 333FSB issue, and the upcoming Barton release. Are industry experts jaded in their excitement of the 333FSB on the new Thoroughbreds, whilst missing the fact AMD has actually made the 266FSB (or lower speed) TBreds too good? After all were cutting the L12 bridge on our expensive 2600+, (and higher) CPU's reverting these so called "High Bred" processors back to the recently eschewed 266FSB. And all this just so they'll reach FSB speeds of 200MHz and above on the recently JEDEC approved, nForce2 optimized Dual DDR400MHz memory speed motherboards. Besides the length of my last sentence I'd call this "Madness"; is it not?

Ergo, I'd put my money on the "Low Bred's" (thank you very much AMD) reaching 2.5GHz for $60, while everyone else keeps up with the "Bartons" (once known as the Jones'.) By the way, this post is not a criticism of Ed Strogilo, (for those w/a propensity for Satanic advocacy) or anyone else, it is simply my observation, and I'll probably end up with "foot in mouth" disease anyway. But sometimes we must take risks to learn, and humility can be good medicine, w/the exception of "cutting" too deep. Which is why GoD invented 9V battery's.

Yep, thy're even better ....... 1700+ Tbred going to 2300MHz.... even 1700+@2GHz on air is better.....

Well, I wouldn't say they're any better or worse. I've had my old palo xp1600 up to 2000mhz before on air ( running at 49 - 52c at full load). I haven't had the opportunity to try this tbred 1800 on a board that can go that high yet.

But that's kindda "Chosen" CPU..... the average 1600+ will do about 1.8-1.85G...... and that's with the very late AGOIA/AROIA.... and we haven't seen everything from those 1700+ AIUHB etc...

Well I think its got to do with the revision of the B stepping myself. The letter right next to the B is the revision of the B stepping. The JIUCB which is the third revision of the B stepping isnt doing that good. Just like the first 2400's had a AIUCB code.
When you get to higher revisions like JIUHB or AIUHB thats a higher revision. C to H is a 5 revision difference. So I say look at the revision of the stepping not the first letter. None of the ones starting with the A even has that low of a revision.

I have one of these "J" 1700+ and I think they are decent overclockers . After hearing of all these 2100+ hitting unbelievable speeds of 2.5ghz or more, I was expecting these to somewhere between 2.2 - 2.3ghz. My highest stable achived was 2128mhz which is pretty good but like I said I was expecting more out of these chips. Im just waiting now for my 2100+, then I can make a somewhat accurate comparison.
