    Some 1.6A madness :)

As you may know I've had this little CPU for quite a while now. First I got it up to 3063MHz (3DMark stable).. 3240MHz (sandra mem stable) using -25C coolant and Abit TH7-2 mobo. At that point the mobo was the limiting factor. After that w/ the P4T-E I was able to push it a bit farther but that mobo maxed out at 198.3FSB (3173MHz CPU). Once I killed the mobo I decided to try the P4T533-C model (which I'm using nowadays).

With the (turbopll modded) P4T533-C I've already got this CPU up to over 3.1GHz (it ran both SuperPi and PiFast at that speed) aircooled w/ Alpha PAL8942 + 68CFM delta (+12C ambient temp). Also ran some 3DMark at 3223MHz w/ vapophase cooler but the CPU speed was limited by R9700 as that card couldn't handle higher FSB/AGP speed.

Well yesterday I decided to put my Ti4200 (I've ran it at 200FSB w/ 2/4 AGP divider so it wont be the limiting factor ) in and took the whole system out in the cold (it was +5C). Wanted to see how far I could push it using Pure aircooling methods
Was expectin like 3150MHz max and its needless to say that I was amazed when I saw it doing PiFast at 3201MHz aircooled!
    PIC
Also ran SuperPi at 3193MHz... I think that it also ran it at 3201 but the result was the same.
    PIC
Then some Sandra MEM goodness.. at 3297MHz aircooled
    PIC
Was able to push it all the way up to 3345MHz (!) until it crashed (I had it at 3360MHZ but it crashed when I was saving the screenshot ):
    PIC

Today I installed the R404 vaporphase cooler on this thing and (once again) tried to find the limits of this little CPU. Well I was able to run some pifast runs at like 3350MHz or so and partial 3DMark benches at 207FSB but it wasn't very stable.. I got all kinds of random lockups and reboots. Also was unable to run PCMArk membench at anything higher than ~205FSB. Also at 211MHz FSB I got some artifacting already in Windows. I didn't get a single pifast calculation error so its quite obvious that the CPU isnt' the limiting factor here. So once again I need to find better mobo! damnit! hehhe.

Wonder if the IT7Max2 can handle these high FSB speeds

ANyways.. this is what this P4T533-C could do:
    Sandra MEM:
    4413/4385 MB/s
    WCPUID MAX:
    3389MHz

    as always good job macci

i have one question if you don't mind. you said that your raddy couldn't handle agp/pci. what was the symptom? like hard lock-ups? in my case it was the windows terribly slowing down and mouse pointer leaving long trail i was just wondering whether raddy was to blame or maybe chipset? note, that at fixed agp/pci frequency at 77mhz i could crank the fsb up little more.

or maybe it was fixed divider lock not working properly at around 230~243fsb though.

Yeah , your 1.6 is great, better than the one I have, i get:
    wcpuidmax: 3169 @198 MHz
    sandramemorymax 4148 @197 MHz
    PC Mark 2002 max 7578 @194 MHz
    Sandra Multimedia 12487 @197 Mhz
    Sandra Arithmetic 6092 @196 MHz
    all pictures: here
    all @ 1,8 V with:
-1,6 GHz P4 "Intel a box" fan, heatsink and pad (no modifications)

    - Asus P4T533 Board, Bios 1.05, and 256 MB 1066 Samsung Ram

    - Gainward Ti4200 64 MB Ultra 650 TV/DVI

    - IBM IC35l080-AVVA07-0 76 GB

    - Win XP Professional

go with better cooling next week, but my Mobo and ram has reach their limits. Btw haven't done a burn in, cause i don't how to do it correctly. Please give a guide. Greetings Klosterbruder

    Hi there Macci!

    Some killer overclocks as usual!

I noticed that your motherboard maybe was a limiting factor when overclockning at extreme FSB-speeds and I just wanted to send my thoughts on motherboards that would handle these high FSB-speeds.

I haven't tested the ABIT IT7-MAX2 yet but i have tested both the IT7-MAX (Red box) and the BD7II-RAID. All I can say is that these boards cope extremely well with high FSB-speeds. I’m a resent visitor on these forums since the 3Dmark team moved from Icrontic and I have seen so many of you guys running systems with the IT7-MAX but none have come close to reach the boards limits when we are talking FSB-speeds.
But now I see that you are pretty close Macci..

The thing is that when I have reviewed the IT7-MAX and BD7II-RAID I tested them with an unlocked P4 Willamette CPU and got some outstanding FSB-overclocks with no modifications on the boards what so ever.

The IT7-MAX reached 215Mhz FSB and the BD7II-RAID topped out at 210Mhz, all tests done with AGP/PCI fix enabled. And I say again.. with no modifications on the boards, all stock. With some better chipset cooling I believe that higher speeds would not be a problem.

If the ABIT IT7-MAX2 is anything like its brother that would be a great board for high FSB speeds.

    Just my two cents.

yes it is excellent board 243fsb with no sign of northbridge crapping

    O my..
That's some great FSB-speeds with your system QuadDamage. Sorry that I didn't saw that before.. I can see that you mentioned then in your previous posts.

May I ask how you got an ES Northwood? Intel has even stopped sending them out to reviewers so they must be really hard to get hold of.

hmm I've never thought i could reach more than 180 Mhz, but now my mobo has reached his limit (200 MHz only 2 to go), that's why i've to change the mobo, perhaps i'll go with IT Max2.
I've thought, that i have the best aircooled P4 but Macci has beaten me, way to go guy. Perhaps with better cooler, better mobo, burn in (please give me a guide how to do it) and little bit more VCore I can strike back.

OK back again (weekend vacation..) :P
    Thanks for the feedback guys

    QuadDamage,
symptoms were like Hard lock ups, not able to even boot to windows at higher than ~204fsb and stuff like that. And once I increased the FSB from like 166 (AGP 66MHz) to 200 I had to lower the card speed from like 465/368 to 455-360/366.

Kiko, RDRAM was running at 2.8V during that bench. These RIMMs have been at 170 4x TURBO mode w/ 3V Vmem.

    Woxxman,
Some good info you got there

Ok time to go and play w/ DDR now.
    wish me luck

Well looks like this IT7max2 cant handle FSB much at all :/
202MHz was the max I could run it thru pifast w/ my 1.6A.

On a positive note I was able to get my old Samsung pc2700 to run at ~235MHz (cas2.5-7-2-3 enhance) for 3DMark Thats w/ a 2.8Gigger @3685MHz btw...

hmm that's bad, i want to buy a abit board, too. But samsung 2700 with that speed is awesome, way to go macci. Plz give me a PC Mark Memory Score, with that speed or a little lower, wan to see how fast it is.

what 8637, that's more than my rd ram system . Have you get those scores with rd ram, too? Congratulation to your new scores, Macci is back. Going to take the high score, too?
