Clock to clock comparison between AN7 and Infinity.

I just compare AN7 and Infinity at the same clock / fsb, here's the result :

Test Setup :

AXP-M 2500+ (No L12 mod)
2x 256 Twinmos PC3200 BH-5
Radeon 9800SE @ 9800 Pro.
Wizzard Catalyst 4.5
WinXP SP1, DirectX 9.0b
Abit AN7 (CPU Interface Enable, 11-2-2-CL2, N24AAC18 bios)
DFI Infinity (Command Per Clock Enable, 11-2-2-CL2, 1/21 bios)

Result :

yah they look similar, with the AN7 winning in all tests but sandra

so.. whats the concensus on which AN7 boards go to high FSBs???

They suck pretty much... Someone made a BIOS for it that apparetly kicks major ass tho.

Nice compare, Henry, Thanx. I'll get my AN7 back from RMA this Friday. I've kinda wondered how it stacked up to that DFI.

Almost no performance different between AN7 and Infinity at same clok / fsb. Maybee we need better bios for AN7 (from mr. tictac, mr. enduracell ), right now 245 fsb is the max "benchable fsb" for AN7 (N24AAC18 bios) with CPU Interface Enable.

Infinity can run at > 245 easily.

Yep, there's the potential for some great newer BIOSes yet. This board's still pretty new.

The 3dmark scores are well within the error margin, they seem to mean nothing.

both board give quite similar performance clock per clock

but DFI still can go above 245 while AN7 cant

so DFI still win for time being...

Youre using the slowest possible DFI bios too, if you gave a bios with 12/18 or 1/31 romsip a try, there would be a signficant performance boost(perhaps up to 400 3dmarks)

YUP!

The 12-18 and 1-31 romsips(you can get newer bios versions with these romsips inserted) have extremely aggressive timings between the cpu interface and northbridge/memory controller, so you get better performance especially in 3dapplications

Look at the first picture(Hexus Pifast AN7), the same clocks of the Infinity - and different from the others of AN7.

Already tried 1/31 bios, no performance boost in 01.

is ur board modded at all? what mem voltage were u running?

Vcore mod for Infinity, but on that benchmark i dont use it, just use 2v vcore, 1.9v vdd and 3.3v vdimm.
And for AN7 i use 2v vcore, 1.75v vdd and 3.2v vdimm.

yea, 1-31 is faster(little bit). I get best result with the 1-31. 1-31 is da bomb. Love the intensity.



Henry, i think there is some performance variations due to error of margin, and the memory quality isn't the same between all those sticks. Some will score/perform better than others in benches (not only 3dmark, but all). With same sticks of my ram, I consistently get better score with my DFI lanparty than Abit NF7/s clock for clock FSB for FSB. In some case, a lot faster. Outperformed in hexus piFast too.

The DFI hardware itself also is more fine tuned in the memory subsystem on the board.

and.. no, I'm not a biased bencher. I owned Abit NF7 boards for a long time and do have good experience in how to run at its best setting. Same with the DFI.

On that 3dmark, what vid clocks were you at to get those scores on the DFI and AN7? I know you got a 9800np, what clocks did you run at? I need it for comparison.

I use Softmodded 9800SE @ 9800 Pro (380/340) for all test.

BTW... that AN7 N24AAC18 bios....

is equip with CPU interface from DFI Infinity 12-18 bios

if u want 1-31 CPU interface on AN7

i can build 1 specially for ya setup
