nforce 2 board and 3 DIMMs

Is it still possible to get dual channel with three sticks of memory? I just ordered an NF7-S, and I am planning on getting more RAM as well. I want a GB or more, and was wondering if I get an extra GB of RAM, if I can use all three slots and still get dual channel with 1GB on one channel, and 512MB on the other.

This technical document seems to say it does, can anyone confirm that?

DualDDR combines the power of DDR333/DDR400 with two independent
intelligent memory controllers. As stated previously, higher memory bandwidth yields
higher system and graphics performance, resulting in more overall productivity, while
intelligent arbitration and ordering logic ensures that data integrity is maintained.
Both of the memory controllers on DualDDR are functionally identical with all
control and timing parameters independently programmable. This flexibility allows
the users to populate up to three asymmetric DIMMs in any organization, size and
speed. DualDDR simply adjust to the lowest common density that will facilitate 128-
bit bandwidth, allowing a wide variety of different DIMM combinations to operate
reliably regardless of the individual density and latency characteristics. DualDDR also
doubles the addressable memory space to 3GB. End-users now can populate higher
density DIMMs, up to 1GB each, to utilize the entire 3GB memory address map.
This large memory map allows more application and audio, video streams to coexist
without conflicts. DualDDR also incorporates three memory address buses to reduce
loading and to ensure all three DIMMs operate stably at very high data rates.

wow, if that's true, thats really awesome. i always thought dual channel was just 2 or 4 dimms, not 3

if dc works w/ all 3 dimms filled on the nf7, then im buying another stick or mushkin

I have 2x256 in the slots closest to the the cpu,
and 1x512 in the other for 1 gig dual channel that works fine.
But I think u must have equal amounts on each channel for it to work correctly.
*edit* but after reading that it would seem to say differently*
Also it has been suggested that using the same type ram is best.

    peace

If the new HyperX I ordered plays fair with my OCZ, it's 2Gb for me soon.
I've heard it all, I've seen it all, I've done it all. I just don't remember any of it.

With three sticks of the same size (eg. 3x 256 ) ...only the first two sticks are in Dual channel....one remains in single channel.

If you have 2x 256 & 1x 512, then everything will be in 128bit Dual channel mode.

Yeah, I realize that.... but you still get a 128 bit wide interface to the RAM regardless, which is what I was told would not happen.

As to why I need so much RAM... I see no point in having less than 1GB (and Desert Combat seems to load maps faster the more you have), and since I have another 512MB if I buy that, then I will have a total of 1.5GB.

it works, but its harder to oc the more memory you have...

got 1.25gb running in dual channel atm

the max fsb with all this ram is around 10mhz lower than the max fsb with 256mb...

I'd be running 1.25/1.5gb right now if I had another BH-5/6 stick...

Just have a pair of BH-6's and a pair of Samsung TCC4's, though.
