Wink Ohh..my A64 with Stock Cooler beat my P4 4.200 with Promie

I'm convinced off the power of the A64, with the graphic card at same speed (520 core), my Athlon A64 at 2.400 with AMD Stock Cooler gave me a better score than my P4 3.2 OC to 4.200 and cooled by a Prometeia ....

    25881 3D Marks

In this compare you can see better:

Just wainting for the arrival of the CPU Kit to mount this A64 in the Prometeia, I smell like 2.800-2.900 on the Prometeia

    Dude...
    a) Your using a different direct X [difference]
    b) Your using different gfx cards drivers [difference]
    3) Your using different OSes
    [difference]

These three variables can easily be the difference of 600 points. I love the preformance and I think that the A64 is kickass. But you have to many variables to compare fully.
And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forest will echo with laughter

    And it makes me wonder

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
    Don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May Queen

Yes there are two paths you can go by
    but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on

How about day to day performance and multitasking? Would you prefer the A64 over the P4C?

    I got news for ya

    a) For optomized 3dMark 2001, DX9 is a tad slower = a few less points, nothing substantial

    b) there is little or no difference between these sets of drivers, I've tested them both.

    c) Win2000 on AMD equalizes the performance of running WinXP on Intel. WinXP on AMD drops bandwidth dependant tests Car and Loby substantially. This is not even a variable...this is the proven OS for performance AMD systems.

If anything he is points under an optimized AMD system running DX8.1 and Cat 3.1's.

The bigger point for you boys, despite the percieved variables is that the single channel A64 at 2400Mhz on air equalled and slightly eclipsed his optimized P4 at 4.2Ghz dual channel DDR using phase change...with card clocks equal on all runs.

    This is indeed impressive.

Couple the A64 with unbuffered dual channel goodness and it will be lights out. The FX even with registered ram has proven the point, right OPP ?

I agree with our venerable and beloved Capitan

Besides some minor variables, the main point is to demonstrate the impressive power of the A64 architecture.

A CPU clocked at 2400mhz with single chanell memor beating a CPU clocked at 4.200mhz with dual chanel memory is really impressive

I don't get how you pulled 2410mhz out a A64 with only a 210 fsb. Shouldn't it be 2100mhz? I thought only FX chips were unlocked with higher multi's.

Randy has taken the words out of my mouth :-D (thx man :cheers
Indeed the A64 score is very impressive. And beating the 4.2g p4 just makes the buy even better.

Lower multpliers are unlocked in all A64's, I'm using 8,5 muli with the memory at 283Mhz 1:1.

The motherboard is a very unexpensive one (less than 100Euros) the Gigabyte 8KN ..
I just do the Vcore mod, without it the CPU only goes up to 1.5v...

    Here is one screenshot:

No, vcore does not require any soldering, it is quite simple ..see picture...

Using OCZ PC4200, need to do the vmem mod to take these to 300+...

where could I pick up stuff like that? What exactly is it as I'm a complete n00b.

Also is your processor a special stepping? Or just a bog standard one, I'm wondering if a AMD 3000+ could get up there.

    AMD A64 3000+
    Gigabyte K8NPRO
    2x256mb Adata PC4000

possible alternative to the P4 rig I'm compiling in other thread.

Mickey, u think going for a P4C right now is a bad idea? Maybe you've seen some of my other numerous threads.

Consider I don't know how to mod the boards with a solder iron. Are you saying a Opteron 1.6ghz could be put @ 200 x 10?

I wouldn't need any top of the line ram either?
