I was looking at prices and noticed that opteron 140s are only $175. Im wondering if they are any good at gaming since they are architecturally the same as the athlon 64 fx i thought that maybe they would be decent at gaming.

All along the watchtower the watchmen watch the eternal return.
As is see it the opteron 140 is just a 1.4ghz athlon fx. It could probably even be overclocked to around the speed of the fx 51.
If im wrong someone please say so.
well theres the chance you get an old stepping opteron that wont oc aboth 1.8ghz... and you would need a huge fsb to get to fx-51 speeds wich would mean a 66mhz pci ide card with a damn good nf3 board, IF the cpu ocs that high...
I know a guy thats sellling Opteron 140 systems overclocked to 1900Mhz+... heres a Link
Thats the highest he says it can run..
Running now, http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=693435

So are opterons faster than athlon 64s clock for clock?
is the multi unlocked also on these?
I believe that multi's are locked on the Opteron's.... it's only the FX's that are unlocked..
That's y MM is using a 146 Opteron as it has the multi of 10....

it seems.... the guy thats selling the 140s oced to 1.9ghz says the fsb is running at ~220 fsb iirc , that would mean a multi of 8.5 or 9 and not the default 7x multi.
why not go with with the cheap A64 3000+
