Question BEWARE: AQYFA week 42 multi locked!!!

Anybody heard about AQYFA Barton 2500+ ?

Two buddies of mine got two of these. They tell me, that they CAN NOT CHANGE MULTI on their NF7-S 2.0 Abits. WTF?
Could it be that AMD implemented a lock?
plz look at bridges - they seem normal to me - like any other 2500+.

yeah all the L1's seem intact? doesnt apear to be locked? maybe its somthing else causeing this and they think its the chip? i know alot of people mistake the fact that they can only use 12.5x and down as the chip being locked. will i will be watching this thread to see what comes of this cause im always interested in stuff like this...

    good luck man, perc,

It seems that the story unfolds...

    2 users at overclockers.at
    1 user at planet3dnow.de
    2 users at overclockers.com

    all AQYFA week 42 !!!

    The facts:
1.) There are 2 users here in Austria http://www.overclockers.at/showthrea...threadid=97670 and in the US http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showth...hreadid=243879 that are able to change the multis on their AQZEA and AQXEA Bartons 2500+.
But if they swap in the AQYFA they are stuck at the default multi of 11x !!!
    No way round.
I consider all 3 of them to be quite experienced users.

2.) Amazingly there is no physical difference of the bridges between AQZEA and this new AQYFA visible (see my pic for comparison within the threads).

3.) Furthermore tools like WCPUID or CPUID-Z show no difference in microcode either (family, model, stepping).

4.) No known unlocking way has succeeded on this stepping.

5.) Its not package related. The AQZEA and AQXEA feature the same package.

    WTF!?!?

will pin modding these on the underside give any results?

i have a 2000 thorton coming and dont know what to expect but i found this and i bought a silver condustive pen.
    http://www.ocinside.de/go_e.html?/ht...md_pinmod.html
i should be fine but for referance i found this as i dont want to mess with topside pins.

mabey you can use that guide to hard mod the pins at least?

Yep, exactly. I just got a Barton chip 2500+ AQYFA week43 and it is completely locked. 11x default factory multiplier works only. No other multipliers work, period. Nothing below 11x and nothing above 11x what-so-ever. 11x is the one and only multi. I'll try to perform the wire drop socket mod to get a specific multiplier.

    Ok I'm back.

Did the wire drop socket mod for a specific multiplier. No worky.. as if it took no effect. The mod does not override the default multi.

what piss.es me off is that I can't change the multiplier so i could hardly find out what the max clock is gonna be with this chip. FSB oc'ing is improved however. Topped out at 242mhzFSB DC fast decode, which is nearly 2.7ghz@ under 2v. Still couldn't find out the max cpu clock because im stuck at 11x. The oc'ability of this chip seem ok but no multi change.. no good. damn it.. AMD

clock for clock, fsb for fsb, timing for timing, and the rest of the setting, the barton only boosts by 150 points in 3dmark compare to thoroughbred.

Barton is going back to the store.

Going back to my beloved xp1700@ 2,800mhz..

amd's been kicking the enthusiasts in the teeth lately
kick 1: socket 754 to be outdated by 939 within a year
kick 2: socket 940 to be bested by 939 within a year.
kick 3: socket 940 only uses reg ram to be useless within a year.
kick 4: locking high multies on 754 forcing fsb only overclocking:
kick 5: locking old 32bit chips just to force the expensive 64bit chips to look better.

i don't know how much longer their fans will hold out.

All this, just as rumours of Intel unlocking the P4EE become more and more prevalent... What the hell, AMD?!

Give it time. Someone will figure out how they did what they did and a way around it.

Has anybody tried changing the default voltage? I'm just curious if any of the bridges are still active.

Yeah I really hope there is a way around it! I planned on buying some bartons soon too... so much for not having to worry about steppings.

take a close look at the above pic. the cpb traces are an illusion and the shiny pin is fake, look underneath the green color and you can see the actual pin and the lazer cut.is also easier to see if you look at an old brown one and compare the distances from pin to pin .

if amd trys to fool us with the green pcb cover they sure as hell coulda locked these on the interior.

i dont think there will be a solution.
people have tried hard coding the pins with no luck on the underneth.that would be the best possability to get it working multi wise.

with the L1's looking intact it seems amd did this internally and like intels multis is unlockable.
i posted on a thread at amd's support forums
    http://forums.amd.com/index.php?showtopic=1829
