    P4C800 Dlx Chipset Superheating !!!

    Hello fellas,

I always managed to watch the xtremesystems team hitting th highest marks at 3dmark and stuff...

And now, finally, I'm here, logged. ehhehehe

    So, let's start:

    I bought an Asus P4c8000 Dlx, and a P4 2.6c.

The is OC to 3.12 ghz, with the retail cooler, hitting 32 at idle and 48 at full load (normal)

The chipset's temp, its 29 Celsius idle, and 33 full load.

    ANDDDDD:

Today, I bought a Seagate 120gb 7200.7 SERIAL ATA HD.

And since I instaled it, and started to format it under winXp, My chipset temp was 36 and risig... till 44 !!!!!!

It NEVER passed the 33 mark.. what the heck ???

Does the promise controller use, needs more load of the chipset???

    Any opinion ? A Chipset cooler ? Which ???

And the SATA drive is very hot too (touching it) no monitor (anyone knows a good one?)

Welcome to Xtreme forums !!! glad to see you around !

The systems temp on the P4C800 is not the nb temp, its measured from a thermal diode on the mb in the lower left corner of the board, under the last pci slot. This is a wacky place to put the sensor as most mb's place it towards the top of the board near the ram. Its just an indication of airflow in the case

What did you do to cool your NB ??

    hummmmm....

    thanks for the info..

nothing, only that my case was leyed down, so no air was flowing... back to normal....

With my case closed, I only have 2 vents (side and up) going out and one vend (back) pulling in (with a filter)

    Cheers
