    L12 mod?

    Hi Guys,

DirtyPunk_IT dropped by the OCAU forums, and deposited this comment in an nForce 2 bandwidth thread: link
    NF7-S V2.0

without L12 mod on cpu can't do nothing over ~220-223, both dual & single

in single can do 3dmark up to 247mhz
Can anybody point me to any links on the L12 mod to allow the 18D chipset to scale higher? I tried a search, but L12 is under the character limit

    Re: L12 mod?

Hi Bravo, long time no see!
This is definitely a mod worth doing. After joining the 3rd L12 bridge, the elusive 250 FSB is finally mine! On dual chanel!

But still have this same problem, as I go up in CPU speed, I have to lower my FSB. And my 10x and 10.5x multipliers aren't working too well on the 14 bios so I'll be going back to 12 to see if its better. This is as far as I can push it with the FSB maxed out. My CPU speed ceiling is 2570 Mhz but can't reach it with the FSB.

I was skeptical at first, but this mod sure as hell paid off!

The high FSB seem to have a certain multiplier and voltage they favour. 250 FSB likes 8x and 9.5x and 1.97v. These boards are really weird!

    LardArse,

Did this mod improve your FSB at high Vcore at all (even a little). I too have this problem above 2.1V Vcore on an NF7-S v2. At low vcore I can do 232 MHz stable, but once the vcore is raised the FSB drops to 219 MHz.

Ive tried better cooling, more Vdd (2.1V), extra caps on the MOSFETS, but nothing seems to help once the Vcore is high.

This mod is my last hope.

Actually with the L12 closed(default), I can now disable CPU interface. And with it off, I can reach 240FSB and I'm still testing to see how much higher I can go, before the highest was 236 with this new Barton 2500+,

Managed to run with 10x multiplier after disabling the CPU interface. But sisoft scores drop by quite a bit when CPU interface is disabled.

    Highest possible FSB ATM,

Code Red, you can say it does to a certain extent. When I run high FSB like 250, it only likes a certain voltage, and that is about 2.05v. Higher or lower makes it very unstable. So I'm not limited to too low a vcore in that sense.
For high vcore/cpu speed and high FSB, I find the most effective for me is to raise the I/O voltage. Unfortunately, the overvoltage protection of my power supply kicks if I try too high an I/O.

    Hi LardArse

I've been out of it awhile, scaled back my overclocking quite a bit. However, the L12 mod interested me enough, as it is relatively simple to do for very large gains

Im curious, what board are you using? I intend to purchase a 2.0 NF7-S to go with my XP2100 @ 2.63gig

    Bump

    I've done the L12 mod, and am running an NF7-S 2.0/10 BIOS/2x 512mb CH-5 TwinMOS modules.

I am unable to enter the BIOS, even at stock speeds (meaning pressing insert on load, or reseting the BIOS before i start up). I am unable to enter the BIOS at 13x 100.

I have noticed my memory defaulting to DDR400, and i can get in about 1 / 10 times when i reset the BIOS, and its running DDR333.

    Any ideas?

Could you try switching to another ram and try to flash to bios 12 or 14? Did you try with just 1 stick?

I am getting the same thing, and im not liking it. I can do 225 at stock cpu speeds, but as I go up I have to lower my fsb to boot/be stable. Anyone have any work-around for this? Or is it just the way nf2 boards do things.

It might be a NF2 thing or maybe the CPU, I have a 8RDA that does the same thing. The CPU will do XXXmhz and the RAM and board will do XXXFSB but they can't do it together. I did find lowering the Vcore helps some.

The 3rd L12 is already closed on your 2000XP, basically they are changing a 333 bus chip into a 266 bus chip, for the NF7 which has auto-sensing for the FSB. On the 8RDA you can achieve the same thing by removing the JCLK jumper.

I have the exact same problem as LardArse, anything above 215fsb with a 10X or 10.5X multi and it wont boot.
Works fine with 11X225 (not stable or i would use it )
LardArse you tried changing bios. If you did, did it help?

No, tried 12, 14B and 14. But disabling CPU interface solves the problem though your performance drops quite a bit.

Tried without cpu interface, still no boot with 10X and 10.5X
Blah this isn't fun anymore, cause i lose like 200/200 in sandra score
from not being able to use 10.5X muliplier.
