    805 D Asus P5nd2 sli preliminary results

Hi guys this is mainly for the people interested in this thread:

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ad.php?t=94746

so i'm posting the results of my experimentation so far. I did have the p5ld2 but had issues with it so sent it back for rma and got the sli board in the meantime and funnily enough i'm getting a better overclock. One question though, my ram is patriot 667 stuff but i'm baffled as to how this ddr2 speed is worked out, am I right in assuming you divide by 2 as with ddr1 to get the true speed? the bios is really confusing as i've got 667 dialled in for the seperate memory clock but its not right (see cpu-z), i've had amd for years and the last p4 i has was a 1.6a so this ddr2 thing has me a little thrown. The reason I ask this is because super-pi seems too slow at 36secs for 1m. From what I can see the cpu is not throttling

    http://img231.imageshack.us/my.php?i...ntitled8mr.jpg

Will post some 3dmarks with my x800gto in a bit.

    Setup:
    p d 805
asus p5nd2 sli (not deluxe, extreme or anything just bog standard cheapo)
    2x 1gb patriot ddr2 667
    c3d x800gto @ 16 pixel pipes 500/500

Yes you divide the 667 by 2 and you get true speed. 36secs for 1M seems rather low.

I've now got the cpu and ram running 1:1 but it cant bench now, blue screens. Cpu-z reads the memory at 200mhz so thats still only 400 ddr and going by the way the motherboard accepts ram frequency entered it cant use ddr 667. eg to get 200mhz you dial in 800 in the bios with the limit being 1200, so that means 667/2 =333.5 x4 (to get frequency how the bios likes it )= 1334 which is above the bios max .

If your memory runs 200MHz its no wonder that the super pi 1M run is that low.

My sentiments exactly, I cant figure out for the life of me why the bios wont let me select the right speed. I've got it at 667, cpuz shows it at 166 . There are no selectable ratios within the bios. The only options are fsb speed and dram speed which are not presets. ie you have to manually enter what you want.

What does it do on higher volts?

    Thanks man

Still trying to figure out whats happening with the memory, either cpuz is wrong or this beta bios has a bug. The memory is set at 667 in the bios (options are 400-1200) any higher than 800 and I cant boot. The cpu is set to 800 (this equates to 200mhz). At 4ghz with the memory at 667 I get a woeful 36s superpi 1m which suggests to me cpu-z is reading the memory right (reads at 166mhz) and the bios is at fault. If I leave the ram at auto and just try and up the cpu fsb the memory goes way out of sync and beyond spec. I'm getting pee'd off now

why are you running the system on "single" channel?

So, can it clock higher than 199fsb?

I only had one stick in whilst trying to figure out whats happening with the memory, I dont know if it can go past 199fsb yet.

Well I dont have a clue whats going off here, still got the memory issue even with a change of sticks (corsair). Cpu-z reads it at 166mhz, bios says 667, cpu at 3980mhz. Tried 3dmark 01 with the 16 pipe gto at 500/500 and it comes out at 22XXX so theres clearly a problem. Any suggestions guys?

Davvy, alittle offtopic from what you're wondering but i have a question/comment on the chips performance.
I've got one of these 805's here on a I945 board and it's throttling badly using the stock cooler in an open case with a boxfan blowing alot of air over the MB/CPU. Whenever it touches 64c it cuts the clocks back alot according to RMClock(link).
Under dual SP2004 at 3.2ghz it's in a constant state of throttle with default voltage. I was just wondering if yours is doing it too given your greater clocks and giving you some funny looking benchmark scores.

Thats why I sent the p5ld2 back. I got a thermaltake big typhoon and even with the voltages at stock the cpu was idling around 60 degrees c even out of the case. For some reason it was in a constant state of being over volted . Thanks for the suggestion though, i'll have a look and post back in a bit.

    WOW!
4Ghz on stock. What stepping do you have. There doesnt seem to be much info on which steppings are good.
    Thanks

As CPUZ states, it is BO which is the second stage in the smithfield I think. Which has seemed to be great for overclocking.

The one i've got here will do 4ghz also i'm sure. The MB is a Gigabyte and will only allow a max FSB of 194 (3880MHz) with this 533bus CPU.
It's kinda funny watching it squirm under load switching between the 14x and 20x multis with the stock cooler which heatsoaks bad.... It takes a good minute for the temp to peak which makes me think a better cooler would work much better. I'm dropping it off to the new owner today or i'd throw it under water to see what it can really do.
Overall i'm impressed with it for a value CPU, it does multitask quite well!

I've given up with the sli board, cant figure out what is going off ram wise. Its going back and i'm reclaiming a new p5ld2 or going for the p5wd2. The only thing thats bothering me with the p5wd2 is its a lot of money (£100) only to have to switch it again to get a conroe. Unless I just sit tight with what i've got until then.

Have you still got a working one, If so would you have a look at what speed cpuz says your ram is at when the cpu is at 4ghz and the ram at 533?

This cpu seems to be a celeron with dual core. Theres no way you can raise the fsb abour 200mhz.
    Thanks

    No.......not true.

Do a quick look through the Intel section and you`ll see that quite a few people are well beyond 200fsb with the D805.

Erm, what? I cant see any likeness to a celeron at all, apart from the price.
