NEW DFI boards! RD580! P-M! mATX!

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2006/01/09/dfi_new_boards/
I am excited for RD580, it is gonna take alot for me to resist until AM2.
Still no dothan enthusiast board
Yonah board sounds good! (but not for us)
Quote:
DFI invited us to go and check out their latest products while we were in Vegas, and we duly obliged. We saw one product that we can't talk to you about yet (although think of the letters R and D, then a number that is 100 higher than 480). The board itself was fully featured, as you'd expect. However, what we can show you are a couple of the new media-centric boards that DFI is going to be selling through 2006.

With the growth of Media Center and the new Viiv scheme, Micro-ATX boards with decent media capability are expected to be in high demand this year. The 915GM-MIGF is a Pentium M board, with Intel integrated graphics running on the 915GM chipset.

We also took a look at the GF6100 ML and the RS482 Infinity. The former is a board with Nvidia graphics onboard and support for Socket 754, making for a very good budget board. The latter is a Socket 939 board with a X300 integrated graphics chip. The ATI board also features a DVI-out onboard for connection to a swanky flat panel.

Both of these looked like pretty neat solutions for media enthusiasts, and DFI are going to have more and more boards for this sector of the market, and are keen to leverage their expertise in overclocking to get the most performance possible. There are also plans for Yonah compatible versions of the Intel boards, meaning that a dual-core, low-power desktop will be a reality.

We're looking forward to taking a look at these boards over the next couple of months - in the meantime, why not let us know if you'd be interested in an overclocking media-centric board? Drop by the forums!
Although this was posted on bit-tech last night, I have not seen anything here about it. Please LMK if this already somewhere else.

Not as much info as I expected...they seem to want to follow nda procedures pretty strictly :p

We know the RD580 is coming, and its going to be one hell of board.

This one should be around U$150

hmm...I wonder if AT has their photos messed up. They say the red matx DFI is Geforce6150, but clearly the card reads 200 Express.

WHOOOOOOHOOOOOO
Quote:
Although DFI's Micro ATX multimedia boards aren't LANParty products, expect some of the LANParty line's BIOS functionality to migrate over. DFI is actually working on a two-tiered approach to motherboard BIOSes. The company has plans to simplify the BIOS it preloads onto retail boards, removing some functionality and relaxing timings to ensure that boards work with a wide range of hardware right out of the box. All the overclocking and tweaking options we've come to expect will be offered in enthusiast-oriented BIOSes that will be available for download from DFI's web site. BIOS revisions tuned for specific hardware configurations may even be offered.

While downloading a new BIOS just to get tweaking and overclocking options might seem like a hassle, it shouldn't be a big deal. After all, enthusiasts often flash a board to the latest BIOS before they even begin to configure a system. Enthusiasts aren't the only ones using LANParty boards, either. The LANParty brand has resonated with gamers and less experience users who may find a list of memory timing or overclocking options daunting. When used improperly, those settings can also damage system components, so it's probably best to keep them in a BIOS that experts can download and install on their own.

Speaking of experts, DFI had its LANParty UT NF4 SLI-DR Expert on display. The board uses a plain old nForce4 SLI chipset, and was built with extreme overclocking in mind. Curiously, though, DFI isn't too keen on the new nForce4 SLI X16 chipset. Apart from extra PCI Express lanes, whose performance benefits are largely limited to SLI AA, and RAID 5, which suffers from painfully slow write performance, the X16 chipset doesn't offer much more than its predecessor. Instead of tackling the X16, DFI is working on another new nForce4 SLI design.

A CrossFire board based on ATI's RD580 is also in the works. This board will ditch ATI's south bridge in favor of a ULi solution, but DFI wouldn't comment further. We managed to surreptitiously snap a picture, though. That'll be our little secret.

not very nice to post this pic after telling dfi they wont post it, but then again i dont get what the big hassle is about?
im sure the no pics was only to create a hype about the board ans use this as marketing... whats so special about a pic of the board, i dont see anything new on it

Hm... THe PCIe and PCI slots are orange. They used to be yellow on NF4 boards and on RDX200 too IIRC.

Looks like it could be a RDX300? Anyways, it has the dual 7 segment displays instead of the 4 LED's like the RDX200.

And what about that RS232 connector next to the DVI in the RS482? I was happy to get rid of it with my SLI-DR and now they put it again? j/k

It's not an RDX200, the digit before "00" is not a "2", could be a 3, 5, 6 or 8.
