    Which air cooler for Dothan

Hello, can sb tell me which cooler is mountable without resoldering jumper and power pins or any big modification. I am kinda looking for TT Big Typhoon, Zalman CNPS9500, or sth big.

If you are using the CT-479 adapter you won't be able to use any form of cooler that requires you to bolt through the mobo because the CT-479 blocks 2 mounting holes. That pretty much leaves just the Zalman 7xxx series and the stick ASUS cooler that comes with the adapter.

If i were you i would just use the stock cooler with some AS5 and maybe replace the stock fan, the dothan chips really don't need excessive cooling

i have seen some of the coolers, eg. macci has CNPS9500 on dothan, but i can't see from his picture what he did with jumpers. I haven't seen Big Typhoon, maybe it doesn't need any big modifications. I allready have those alu sticks which zalman uses to mount their coolers, with the help of P4 retention module!

Can anybody tell me what mod do i have to do, to remove jumpers from front (top) side of adapter and that power connector.

Some people have mounted an hsf than uses the bolt-through method, search for dothan mounting if you want to see that.
i have another cooling related question; my dothan hits a wall at 2483, temps are in the low 50s with the ct-479 cooler. Would i be able to clock it higher with a better (air)cooler?

Skane: I don't think so. What voltages are u using? I had 730 @ 1.6v with stock cooler. I didn't get any improve for speed after i installed Zalman's 7700. Just temps got much lover, but couldn't overclock that any further. I think only way is to go higher voltages, but maybe theres no sense use over 1.6 voltages?

And back to thread, it seems theres no difference between 9500 Led and 7700 actually. Maybe little temperature advance could be for 9500, but is it really worth that price? I don't think so... And 7700 is at least very easy to install. Or was it there none problems with 9500 also? Well anyway Big Typhoon seems to be able to install, but really thats not woth of it!
I just suggest u to save some money and buy Zalman CNPS7000Cu or CNPS7700.

it is stable at that speed, at any voltage between 1.4 and 1.6.
i dont think the 9500 will be harder to install than the 7700 as it uses pretty much the same mouting mechanism as the 7x00, the only difficult thing seems to get the little clip between the heatpipes.. The 9500 does have one advantage over the 7700, namely that in cases with little space between the mobo and psu, it can be installed where the 7700 cant. The question if it is worth the money remains though..

I have a 7000B Cu LED and I love it... max temperatures are around 40 to 45 while benching or gaming.

I have 7700AlCu, had to mod it a bit for proper mounting. Can't tell you temps though since my MB is reporting incorrect values. But it was like 10C lower than stock heatsink.

the 7000alcu is really the best heatsink you're going to get without modifications. the 7700cu can be done, but i had to shave my floppy connector (the one connected to the power supply, not the adapter's plug) down a bit to get it all to fit properly.

as for ram, i recommend two gskill 1gb value ram, pc3200cl3. its 71 bux for a 1gb stick . i just dropped one in my dad's ultra-d based box, i'll play with itlater

thx man, that i was talking about. I am going to buy that monster.
I would like to know, is there no other option for mounting, except bending that power conncetor. And do you have any pic, how that power connector looks without cooler, or can you just describe what exacly did you do.
    thx

I just bend the pins of the powerconnector 90 degrees and solder the wires from the molexconnector to the pins.

XP90 is greatest than 7000 AlCu in my experience

bend the pins of the powerconnector 90 degrees and mount the stock XP90, that's all

Pics ? Sounds like an interesting mod. I think alot of the people are going CNPS's because of their quietness though. Although a 120mm panaflow on it would be nice.

cooler looks nasty, one of the things that makes him serious is that tunnel effect with 120 system fan.

i'll probably mount a 120mm fan on it.

I agree that a 7000 is the way to go.

I use a 7000B-AlCu myself till a new pump arrives. Its quite, cools well, and required no modifiaction to mount it.
