6800OC fried: Where do I get this part?

Hey all. I joined these forums in the hopes that someone can help me. Recently, my 6800OC fried and a piece broke on the back of the PCB. I am pretty oblivious in terms of PCB designs...here is a pic of the same card with the piece that broke/fried

I don't know what to do or where to get that piece. I suppose I could find someone to put it on if I can find out what that was.

I really appreciate any and all help.

maybe from another dead card ? soldering it on will be fun

this image shows the numbers on that chip, identical to the one next to it.

Where you live ? Maybe you could find a reseller/contact info with this link:

    http://ec.irf.com/v6/en/US/adirect/i...wToBuyProducts

.. which a help page of manufacturer of those components ( 'IRF7832' ?).

    --

If you find it hard to buy those, maybe it is possible to select 'similar' component e.g. having the same ('near enough' ) electrical parameters.

    Thanks guys

I'll look into it...although I am not 100% sure what to do

Is 'IRF7832' the part I am looking for? Im not sure what to look for on that chip...

Can you still read codes top of your component ? BTW, the right chip next the 'burn one' should be exatly the same. Please post all marking codes found from those. 'IRF7832' has been used at least in Gainward's cards.

You can buy one. I did to see if that was what was blown when I accidentally put a 10k ohm resistor instead of a 100k for a memory mod. It wasnt the problem, but point is I got the part. The IRF7832 is whats used on the BFG OC cards.

Come to think of it, I -may- have one left over, as I ordered about three of them.

    -Edit-

Nope, I only have one to a Evga 5700LE.

I think those will blow due to too high temperature. Here is a figure of the temperatures I have measured from MSI 6800le-card with Vcore of 1.2 V (idle, heavy load temperatures measured with a Pt100)

As you can see those MOSFET's are running HOT and the MOSFET blown in your case having 8 degrees higher temperature compared to other (they are parallel). I suppose that when performing vmod for Vcore temperature increase in MOSFET's and coils (capaciotors) introduces the highest risk i.e. the increase of core temperature would not be so catastrophic.

In this forum I have seen at least three cases having those MOSFET's blown (because of higher Vcore ??).

Pawtucket: Do you have any idea, how/why your MOSFET burn ? Do you know what Vcore value there was before 'break down' ?

    Hi

I had flashed the bios with a higher Vcore. 1.4 if I am not mistaken. I guess that would explain why the thing blew in half! I wont be able to read the part number on that chip...but the one next to it is intact, so it should be ok. I'll have a look.

It would be it would be the higher vcore. Me and my brother got our 6800NUs at the same time and both seen equal action since we would play the snot out of each other in UT. Both cards looked the same untill I changed my vcore one point higher. A few days later I notice that glue stuff or whatever it is on the pcb golding due to the heat, my brother's shown none.

My old Voodoo3 is no longer green, but a slight gold because of how I had it overclocked in the day.

All evidence are quite clear to find out 'the murderer'

IT SEEMS TO BE A TIME BOMB HAVING THIS CARD (=design, PCB) VCORE MODDED HIGHER THAN 1.2 V WITHOUT EXTRA COOLING FOR MOSFET's

    --

I know SOME cards installed to CERTAIN computers (better cooling etc.) can run looooooog time without problems, but one can not never be sure to have poor components (=burn soon with Vcore => 1.3).

yes i have a simular problem with my galaxy 6800 the power MOSFET HAT2168 H has blown on my card.
mine was not overvolted or anything the only thing i can think of that may have caused it is the heat problems with the case as there was no front fan on mine at the time i have since replaced the case and have fitted a 120mm and a 80 mm fan blowing cold air onto the card to hopefully solve the heat problems as i believe the problem is that my card has an ice cooler on it and there was no cool air blowing on the card to keep the mosfets cool{which according to the specs can produce more than 21w of heat and there was nothing cooling it down.so i would recommend that anyone running an ice cooler to make sure they have plenty of air blowing over the card to cool the mosfets and i will also be fitting heat sinks to the items once i can get hold of the parts as i beleive this will solve the problem as they will be able to keep cooler then.
hope i have been of somehelp to you.
