    Giga-Byte GA-K8NSC-939 Vdim mod - need help

    Hello all,

    I have a Giga-Byte GA-K8NSC-939

What is the correct Vdimm mod for this board, and measurement point. The layout seems to be the same as the GA-K8NS-939 and the GA-K8NS PRO -939.

Yes I have used the search function but many posted pictures have broken links (no image), and the more I research the more I get confused by people postin about s754 and s939 mobo in same thread...

    anybody???

I have the pic of the one where you connect two contacts on back of the motherboard, but not sure if that will be safe here... any feedback?

    For the few daring:
I still dont know what the proper Vdim mod is. The cap mod, between the leg closest to dimms of cap between the dimm slots and the cpu socket side dimm slots and any 3.3v atx connector pin on back side works.. however, I had strange things happen. My BH5 would sporadically error in windows memtest.. it worked fine up to almost 240Mhz using prime95 blend, but windows memtest would immediately (withing first 5% of memory) find some errors. Oddly, the errors ususally didn't continue, but just happened at large intervals, but it was amazing that this happened even below 166Mhz!!.. all the way down to 152Mhz. After several soldering and de-soldering sessions, I came to the conclusion that the cap mod must add some noise to the signals, or create unsteady voltage or whatever, but it was surely what was responsible because whenever I removed the mod, it worked 100% perfect.

    I got Venice 3000+ E3 and Gigabyte k8nsc-939 F4.
    now running 290*9= 2.62 Ghz @ 1.70v @ 47*c max temp @ ~20*c ambient temp ram is 5:6 divider runing 238Mhz 2.5 4 3 7 samsung TCCC

I got 4 512mb samsung TCCC but only 2 were good enough for 245Mhz the other two didn't even pull 210~220Mhz and the 2 OCZ premier 512mb stick suck so much didn't work with dividers and didn't go over stock settings.

I did the vcore and psu-vdimm mod and IHS removal. Removing IHS didn't drop the temp too much cause it was put on really good. Removed the psu-vdimm mod not enough cooling to dual ram sticks. Vcore mod unused. Reached the limit of air cooling and ram limit on this hardware.

    *Updated
added a bit of pressure to the heat sink and the core
    Bios F6 290*9=2.62Ghz @1.75v 48*c max @ 20*c ambient on air
    2gig ram 4way 2T @ 2.78v 1.50 divider running 218mhz 2.5 3 3 5

    1. What voltage is measured (in CPUZ) when you run at 1.7V?
    2. I have F6 bios for it... kept nagging them about lack of S.M.A.R.T. for IDE driver.. till they made it.. no OC improvement thought.. bit worse for a few memory timings.
    3. Vcore mod help? Which exact one?
    4. psu-vdimm??? I have 3.3V line setup with potentiometer setup on 3.3V sense line (increases BH5 speed a little), aswell as short 3.3V to vdim capacitor (help to raise speed a lot, but ALWAYS gets infrequent errors in memtest.. even down to 150Mhz!)

    1. 1.69v is what it says in cpuz
    2. using relax memory timings with F4 bios
    3. vcore with the 100k ohm pin 10 to ground. Didn't really need it other cause of limitations.
    4. psu 3.2v to cap left pin. My TCCC samsung didn't overclock better with it. It ran hotter and didn't have enough cooling when it gets too hot it gets errors in superpi and prime95. So I took it off. You need better ram and better cooling like big fan and ram sinks. Also didn't need it cause my ram reached its limit.

Ahh, the Vcore mod is the one I expected.. won't help me either... the last 0.1V gave only extra 20Mhz for me. The Cap mod, once again, although it seemed to work wonderfully, adds some noise or something, that causes intermittent but consistent errors.

btw: my venice max is only 2625 (using stock HSF)
