I need someone to test the modded 7800 bios [updated 13/07 with new bios]

    hi all, as per title
i include 2 version of modded 7800GTX bios here
they r both modded to 1.5v vGPU with 470/1300 as a default freq (stock vGPU=1.4v)

the only difference is that one is with thermal monitoring and one without (which i think is the cause of "coldbug")

i have two of my m8s testing the first one, but unfortunately, they dont have water cooling or some other xtreme equip to testify whether the second version DOES work without a coldbug.

i would appreciate those who can test it for me, xtreme ocer welcome

plz leave your feedback here so we can see wats going

    Cheers

    Victor

tnx for you contribution victorshen, if they work many members will be VERY pleased.

i think nvidia should release it but again they will have many warrentyprobs with the bios.
so any 3th party is welcome here

    use nvflash

    save your original bios first

    nvflash -b xxxx.rom

    then flash this one

    nvflash -5 -6 xxxx.rom

    via dos

one side effect is that you cant know the core temperature anymore

so i think thats one reason nv dont wanna release it

    That side-effect would make sense

    If this works:

(And this will mean I won't have to negotiate with BFG!)

Question, is there a way to maybe redefine the temp tables? Rather than just deactive them, say that -100C is value0 in the table rather than 35C.

I guess the drivers would always say that things are 135 degrees hotter than they really were though, that'd be bad.

IDK, I just imagine there's a way to change it so that it completely works.

probably not, coz in the bios there is only one thermal throttling, that is above 115c, there is nothing indicating that it will also throttle under 35c, so my guess is that the cold bug is a restriction of driver.

so either you mod the driver or disable the monitoring

Just kidding about OPB testing I guess...anyway, I'd also like to know a clearer, more defined way to do it, Victor.

    i attached the 5.13 nvflash

my friend successfully flashed his xfx 7800GTX using both the nvflash utility and bios i gave him

if your system partition is Fat32, i would be easier
copy the bios and nvflash to a folder, say c:\nvflash

    boot into dos

    cd c:\nvflash

nvflash -b backup.rom (backup your original one at c:\nvflash)

nvflash -5 -6 xxxx.rom (flashing the new one)

p.s. i recommend use hdd to flash bios, if you DO need a floppy, make sure the disk is okay, personally, ive got very unpleasant experience flashing with floppy

    final question,
    I am stil confused
which one I need to flash if I wanna try on the water cooling?
    7800A1OC-with Thermal monitoring.ROM

    OR

    7800A1OC-without Thermal monitoring.ROM

    Thanks

the best way is to try both
    first the one with monitoring
    then the one without

so that we can know whether it works

yup, the cold bug is gone..but as sampsa said the other thread,
it still have problem when I get over 530/1437 , the performance is decrease "A LOT". not a system lock up.
But thank you very much for doing this for us

    OPB

BTW, default is 470/1300...nice job there.

hmmmm.....thats a bit weird, bios will only throttle the card when core temp>115c, but i think by just overclock to 530 , you wont get that temp

probably we shall w8 for the next driver.....
