Sampsa & Kamu: GeForce 7800 GTX SLI with LN2

Ok, G70 cold bug is fixed with BIOS update. The problem was serious performance drop when cards were cooled below 35C. New BIOS disables temperature sensor in drivers and throttling mechanisms.

We did some testing today with Kamu and were able to run cards in SLI when GPUs were working at 580 MHz and memory at 1420 MHz. This was with default voltages and around -25C was measured from the base of GPU copper containers.

There was still some strange behavior when going above 580/1420. System froze immediately at 525/1425 when I pressed Rivatuner's "Test" button even though 580/1420 worked fine in 3DMark05. Same thing happened with Coolbits.

Next we'll do some modifications and try to get our CPU even higher. Currently we are able to run 3DMark05 at 3575 MHz.

745? 3DMark05 reports GPU speed around 40 MHz higher than it really is. But 700 MHz is still very nice

I'm pretty sure there are some insane numbers coming from Singapore

Cant wait to see some numbers. Is someone going to break 40k in 3d03? Opp got like just under 35k with his watercooled, will jumping to LN2/cascade get an extra 5k points?

I have to admit that Kamu has much better LN2 wrist than me. Although today it was a bit shaky because he had a hangover

Why didn't you take the GPU containes lower than -25C?

Have you tried disabling the internal clock test with riva tuner?

    "Guess" ?

Anyway, there still is a test when you raise clock speeds with Rivatuner and have to run it before you can apply them, right?

it's in the rivatuner poweruser settings, it's very easy to do.

nvidia/overclocking/disableinternalclocktest , iirc. Certainly something along that line, i'd check myself if i wasn't on a mac at the moment.

There is still a rivatuner test left if you disable the internal testing

Looks like it can be disabled from Power user options: Rivatuner 2.0 RC 15.5 \ Overclocking \ Global \ and set DisableClockTest to 1

I'll test it with voltage modifications, more LN2 already ordered

yes you have to disable it under overclocking \ global as well as overclocking \ nvidia I believe it is. You can also enable "enableperflevelforcing" under overclocking \ nvidia then set "force constant performance level: performance 3d" under the overclocking screen to disable the throttling Not sure if it works with cold throttling, though.
