Secrect to DFI overclocked stability in Bank Interleaving?

First of all I have stability problems overclocked when it's enabled it seems. Took me awhile to come to this conclusion. I thought it was cooling so I've been playing with higher CFM fans, open case, and everything other setting imaginable. What exactly is bank interleaving and why does disabling it make my 2.7 GHZ overclock suddenly stable? Disabling seems to let me go farther.

However in the bios when I disable it, save changes and go back it will show that it's enabled again. I think part of my issue and the reason why stability is so spotty is because I will disable it run a bunch of tests to confirm stability then go back into the bios to make other changes at which point the board is re-enabling it on it's own - then I have problems so I back it down to still have issues (which is why this is so frustrating). Till now I wasn't paying attention to the setting when I went back into the bios. However I think this is the setting that I've been looking for!

If anyone can confirm that they see it auto enabling upon re-entering the bios or having stability issues that are resolved once it's disabled - please let me know. Thanks!!

    Dean

depends on ram for Gskill TCCD and OCZ 2x 1GB Performance 3-3-3-8 modules enabling interleave = more stability on DFI NF4 SLI-D but BH-5 ram doesn't like interleaving

Ok it seems that was a big with 331 bios, now with 441 I shows disabled. But this is the first time I disabled it with 441 and I can superPI at 2.7 GHz again. Moving FSB up will post updated results as I get them.

hmmm.. i wil try testing with interleaving off. that may be why i cant find anything stable. too bad disabled chops ~3k mb/s throughput off.

yeah probably why Gskill on DFI does so well with 2.5-4-3 and 2.5-3-3 timings with interleaved enabled

Talking Interleave didn't work me either ....

(NOTE: APPLIES BETTER TO BP808 TCCD then others I think (only gskill vs PDP for comparison, sorry. ))

At first... Using Gskill GBLE, dropped down to lowest barely stable memtest speed and started the ramp up w/ it on. Took a couple of days, and now running as in sig (@ 2.5-4-3-7, trying same thing to get 2.5-3-3-7 in windoze now)

Burning GBLA (1G) same way on spares in the basement over the weekend, since only good for 2.5-4-3-7 (300FSB) so far

    Eva2000,

do you think this could be what keeps my UTT from taking more than 3.0v in dual channel when single seems to work.

I might have to try when I get home.

It does seem to have fixed my random stability @ 2.7 with it disabled.

Disabling interleave should improve everyones stability

but @ a performance hit. My technique MIGHT help on UTT/BH.. but you have to start lower. Find the tradeoff of max FSB/speed (if any) w/ interleave on (memtest) vs. if you can OC enough and/or compensate w/ settings to make up the difference. I have found a gain of 1-200 MB/sec w/ interleave on.

Of course w/ so few settings on the DFI this may be tricky (feeling I get when juggling it all for performance, talk about multi-variable analysis ) and then AGAIN in windows

I will always have it disable for the exact same reason, as I found the performance didn't compromise much(if any) at all.

Yes it's better at 2.7 and disabled than on at 2.65

I think you're on to something here, dnottis. NO WAY this was possible before I disabled interleaving.

my LE kit does it with Interleaving Enabled. If you want Dnottis , ill post a Screenie of A64 Tweaker settings and Super Pi. Disabling Interleaving gave me a hit on my bandwidth which i didnt like . Although I needed 2.8V for it on the same Gskills which did 300 on Neo2 stable at 2.7V .

AFAIK it only works with 1 gig or more - is there an advantage to disable it with 2 x 256 ?

I havent even been able to start playing with memory settings - got another DFI ultra-D in today - this one likes to randomly freeze... argh. Gonna yank the chipset and do it up with some as5 later tonight.

I had to play with ALOT of mem timings to get to 300 mhz stable. 290 mhz was a breeze , everything set to auto except the main 4 timings. But the going got tough after that , And after sleepless nights of memtesting and about a million cigarettes and soda , i finally got my stable config . My chipset voltage is a def. as is LDT bus voltage. Havent needed more than that yet and my chipset is at 42 C to 45 C all the time , so im happy.

Yeah I took a pretty bad hit in bandwidth...but its better than my previous 24/7 setting (290*9, 166mhz divider). I'm at ~7600mb/s right now in Win2k, so I'm going to install xp and tweak tref and dram strength timings.
