    Ballistix @ CAS1.5 + 225mhz

i've got two sticks of crucial ballistix. one of them can do 1.5-2-2-10 at 2.9v, the other can't, even with 3.1v. i'll be doing some testing, probably tomorrow, to see if it really provides much benefit over cas2

not sure about 100% stablilty, but it made it through 2 passes on test #5 without errors, so it's good enough for now.

Got a fan over those memory sticks? No? Well get to it before you kill them

yup, crucial ballistix use micron mT-5b G chips.
and curiously, i just tested 2-2-2 timings. couldn't get any higher

i've known for a while that my memory controller has issues.. i wonder if that's coming into play.

It is the same chip like ocz3700 eb? I will test one of those.

    ocz has -5b C instead of -5b G
not sure exactly what the difference is, but i think G does better with less voltage.

Try with 3.4v or over (not over 3.6v)
One of my Ballistix do 250mhz 2-2-2-5 with 3.4v stable in Spi

what voltage can ballistix actually take for daily use? has anyone ACTUALLY fried ballistix from high voltage? Or do we know for a fact it's not voltage tolerant (but seems to benifit hugely from higher voltages)

cause at high voltage it seems some do 2-2-2-5 timings 250 fsb...and at high voltage it can also do 300fsb at slacker timings...probably die very quickly?

    In dayuse max 3-3.1v
    Over 3.6-3.7v is dangerous.
With Ballistix i can't do 300mhz, while with Tracer i can. At what timings you take 300mhz ?

    Sorry for the english :p

    Bye

not me personally lol :/ I've only got them 270mhz 2.5-3-3-6 with 2.8 volts *drops to 2.78 underload* i need a soldering iron and VR's before i can get any more voltage

my memory controller sucks, limits me to around 245-250mhz with one stick, 234 with two.
i'm considering replacing my 3200+ that can only clock to 2.35ghz without getting too hot with a mobile 3400+

Have you test each ram ? 234 is very very low
On my 3200+ 1 stick do 250mhz 2-2-2-5 and the other 240mhz. In dual channel i take 240mhz 2-2-2-5, same as the slower stick...

both sticks can do 250mhz at 2.5-2-2-10 with 2.8v
and i've tried playing with the ram slots too, 1+2 seem to work best for me

Those crucial ballistix are really mad... I've seen some at 265Mhz 2'5-2-2 with less than 3V.

yup, seeing as i can get 250mhz with just 2.8v, if i can overcome my memory controller limitation, i wouldn't be surprised if i saw 260mhz out of them..

also, i'm not really understanding why these never really came into favor? it's cheap, oc's well with tight timing, and doesn't always need lots of voltage, but can take it if you have it.

Big number mentality would be my guess. Perhaps once both manufacturers use integrated memory controllers and latency becomes a "universal" issue, people will care more about it. But by then, DDR2/3 will be the standard.

People like DUMO have shown that high speed with super tight timings matches ultra-high TCCD with loose timings. I know that I'm happy with my memory at moderate speeds and tight timings.

    most impressive.
and yeah, going from 1.5-2-2 at 225 to 2-2-2 brings latency up from 42.3 to 42.4ns, and the bandwidth went down from 3415mb/s to 3391mb/s
i think cas1.5 is there more for bragging rights

i need an extra 512 mb of this stuff so i can run dual channel *Sigh* probably crippled about 3 seconds in super pi cause i'm running single channel.

I've read great things about using 2.5-2-2-10 with Ballistix

yup, i'll second them, now if only i could get my memory controller to go over 250mhz

With 2.5-2-2-5 my Ballistix do 282mhz, at 2.5-2-2-10 i think they do 285-287mhz

why is it we dont see more talk about ballastix then? they get tight timmings and high mhz. they almost have the same timmings as the VX everyone is killing for, with less volts, and ballistix also scale with looser timmings. i never can understand why ballistix doesnt get much hype. ive been a fan of the micron chips since i got my 3500eb. MUCH better than any of my bh-5 or bh-6 ive owned IMO.

they have been out for a long time now though. i guess when the tccd supplys burn out it will see increased demand.

You arent changing to cas 1.5 from within windows are you? Unless something has changed recently there is still no way to change cas latency without setting it in the bios and rebooting.

All along the watchtower the watchmen watch the eternal return.
