    Got 0451EPAW from newegg today

Just thought I'd let you know what the 'egg was flinging right now. Got this today, ordered it Monday (with my G.Skill LE).

I'll have it tested in a day or two and get back with the results.

How high are you able to get your mushkin? I've been able to get my Lv2 to 270htt/2.2.2.5 with 3.3v, But they're 2x256, Just wondering.

    Build Progress Report

I got the cpu installed, the AS5 applied and the XP-120 on:

Then wrestled the mobo into the case

And got it cabled up. I also put one of the GSkill LE chips into slot 2.

And the moment of truth - It fired right up!!

Yeah, I forgot the check the jumper on the DVD. I probably should get that over to Master. Quick check of the temps looks good:

Fan2 is the neopower's auto-variable fan, that's why it's so slow at the moment, there's no load. Now to flash the bios and add the 2nd ram chip, then we'll see how she overclocks.

That's a lot of AS5 you put on there. You really don't need that much, just a very thin layer.

Actually you don't even need a layer. AS5 is different from other versions of arctic silver in that its not meant to be spread over the cpu by the user. If you place the pastic tip/applicator of the AS5 tube directly on the center of the heatspreader while you push the plunger, the compound is transferred onto the heatspreader into a nice "grain of rice." The compound is then evenly transferred over the heatspreader by the weight and pressure of the heatsink.
    Less is more.

That's right, just a small grain of rice, if that i think. I think they even said half a grain, but i think that might have been for cpu's for IHS, but don't hold me to it.

i try and put the smallest amount i possibly can, even a grain of rice will spread out more than the size of the core once it squeezed by the HS.

i just dont see how complete contact could be worse then a circle in the middle of your heatspreader

I'll be getting a 3000+ tomorrow from newegg shipped from the NJ warehouse. I'll report back with steppings and OC results.

BTW did your CPU ship from the CA or NJ warehouse and was it oem or retail?

This came from CA, and it was an OEM.

I've got it memtest stable now at 2.7Ghz, but with high voltages. 1.62v on the core and 2.9v for DRAM. My temps are still sub 30 at that, but that's with memtest and it seems that's far from a reliable test. It was doing 2.6Ghz on 1.45 and 2.8v DRAM with loose timings no prob.

I'm installing windows now, and we'll see what happens in real life.

Nice clocks. Are you able to run 1:1? 2.7ghz is like, what, 300FSB?

    yeah, that's 1:1, 9x300.

But let's see what happens with testing under windows. I've gotten excited about speeds that'll post but are hairball under windows and benchmarks.

But it does seem to bode well, I'm thinking 2.6Ghz could be a reality for 24/7.

    I'm getting 2.6, 9x287, Prime stable, at 1.6v.

It was pretty easy, I'm going to keep tweeking and start working on RAM speed.

that is a lot of AS5 i only use about half a BB size on a P4 and a little bigger then that on my a64 as the heat sink dosnt apply as much preasure to the cpu.

Ended up with a stable 2.63Ghz

293x9@1.63v, can do SuperPi 4M, and my 1GB of LE is at 2.5-4-3-7. Idle load 20-21 degrees, max load 38 degrees

hit 10k in 3dMark03 with my crappy $155 refurb Chaintech 6600GT, although the GT needed a Zalman VF700 and a whole lot of pencil to get to 643/1200. GPU idle temp at 30, max load 58.

My first OC'ed system, and I'm pretty happy. Thanks Xtreme Systems!

For spreading thermal paste a razor blade works quite well. I've also heard of people using old credit card's to spread it.

You're lucky that your CBBID 0451 can reach that speed, my pathetic CBBID 0451EPCW can't even go beyond 2.3ghz? I'm now stucked at 255HTT X 9. I've pumped all the possible voltage like vdimm, vcore, ldt voltage. I've tried putting 255HTT via clockgen and my windows filesystem just corrupted. I've tried 10x, it will not boot into windows, just curious, a super messy HDD with a OS ported from a barton system, will it affect the ocing due the messiness in the hdd itself? My vdimm is at 2.8v btw. I've already pissed off by it as i need to rebuild my windows filesystem painfully. I just hope this cpu can go till 2.5ghz and i will be very happy.
