Coming back to air need help choosing HSF

I'm temporarily dumping water cooling for air until I graduate and I haven't paid to much attention to air cooling and who's on top etc.


I plan on reusing my Scythe GT-15's I got already in push pull config, was looking at these coolers which would be best? also Got some san ace's in the back if I need to pull them out.

Armegeddon just doesnt perform up to those two.

Cogage Arrow (Made by Thermalright) outperforms both of those.

For the size/performance i say get the Venomous X. I just installed one on my PC last week and it is a SWEET piece of gear, the mounting gear & install is absolutley fantastick

Noctua NH-D14 if you want the absolute best and you can fit it. Venomous X or Megahalems if you can't.

what kind of needs are you looking to meet with air cooling? The three coolers you have listed are pretty good. From what I've seen, the VEN-X and the TRUE perform great. The NH-D14 is a beast and is also a great performer. Ultimately it depends on if you intend to OC your rig into the wild blue yonder or not. If it boiled down to just appearances, I find the TRUE black somewhat mesmerizing. ...I happen to like black components. And given an option, I'd dump my NH-D14 for a black one.

The VEN-X also has that nice pressure plate system to help you really get the heat out. Both are worthy components.

I'm wondering for the Noct would the Gt-15's outperform the stock fans?

I have to check clearance issues before ordering though.

The Noctua is a great cooler but HUUUUUGE! The VenomousX is MUCH smaller and perform's maybe 1 or 2 degrees less at the worst.

I thought the ultimate air cooler was the Cogage Arrow?

The fans that come with the NH-D14 are good fans. They're excellent quality and a near silent even when moving at full blast. Stealing the clips from the fans is a pretty easy task in itself. In fact, I replaced my fans with a pair of Silent Eagle 2000s that seem to be working excellently.

Madmaxx is right though. The NH-D14 is huge. I don't think he put enough u's in to emphasize the size of this beast. I was expecting big when I ordered mine, but what I got was colossal. Since size is a valid concern, I might suggest the VenX. But seeing a D14 stuffed into that little box kinda piques my interest. If you can do it, serious brownie points, as this thing looks massive even in my XClio 1000 case. :O

There is a good chance they have anti-hotlinking code running. I have used such code before to upload obscene photos when people steal my work. Next time do a thorough job of stealing the photo by uploading it to XS instead

simply unparalled, unless you look up some of poparamiro work. he is also a genius about air cooling. you should PM him and ask his opinion, he has tested more air coolers than anyone on the planet.

I think the Frostytech stuff is biased/out of date. Poparamiro (501labs) seem's to be where it's at for air cooler review's

There is an 80+ page review article they did including like 20+ unit's of the TOP air cooler's
