ASUS M4A89PRO/USB3 testing with locked multi x2 550

Had some free time to play with this board a little amongst my busy schedule of late. Just getting a feel for it, I'm sure the results could be improved upon seeing as I was run and gunning and just exploring the board.

    ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3
    AMD Phenom II x2 550 C3 ( untested chip till now )
    Corsair 1866 c7
    pc p@c 1200 turbocool
    Single GIGABYTE Radeon 5970
Ancient mach 1 predating the dinosaurs

I was extremely lazy with this one, just jacked the multi one notch from my 06 run and let it rip.

Not bad for a "dual core chip"

05 looks real good on this board

Tossed in a quick PI run, its rather obvious that this chip can do 5+ for a valid on this board based on it's 1m abilities so I didn't bother with a valid.

1m effeciency seems to be off albeit this OS is untuned I don't believe that to be the cause.

Got some more free time so here we go.

Lets start off where we stopped.......that sub 14 1m that got away due to the fact i was tired as hell last night.

Of course saying a chip will do 5+ and showing it will do it are 2 totally seperate things, lets make it more complicated by adding 2 more cores to the equasion..

I just ripped a bunch of other benches no tweaking/tuning, just feeling out the boards performance and the cpu.

This chip has some serious identity crisis, it just loves being a quad.

Might want to rephrase that to this particular board looks good for 3d, been scanning similar results and there is a huge delta and I preety much know why but need to test it personally to be sure.

From what data I have here it's beating all my 790 boards.

Tossed my SSD in to test the performance of the SB sata controller.

Testing ram clocking on a new bios boasting ram compatibility , eliminated cold from the equasion to see how it fares under more "normal" conditions.

No subzero air cooling or high end heatsinks needed here.

Excuse the bench station, it's been hectic lately.

Was to lazy to install the socket bracket again so I just plopped the cooler on the chip.

I'm tired, time for a little shut eye.

Hmm, that makes it even more interesting.

Since it's an Asus board i have high hopes for the upcoming Crosshair IV, both Formula an Extreme.

The Crosshair III seemed pretty strong in 3D as well.

Anxious to hear your reasoning behind this, my first hunch would be internal latency between CPU-PCI-e lanes.

From my data the crosshair III got served by this board as well, but like I said I need to do a real compare myself. If i can find the time I may do a all things equal compare on a rather large variety of boards all at the same speeds.

    IGP benching time

System on "REAL air" and still to lazy to clamp the heatsink down.

Apparently this is my fastest single GPU submission to hwbot in 3d01

OOPSed this screenshot but gpu speeds were kept the same through all benches. CPU speed netted nothing in this bench, I scored the same total at around 4.0 gig

Quick test with micron D9 GTS for compatibility, still stock cooler/cooling.

Finally getting a little more organized here. Air station back up and running and cleaned up for the most part.

Tossed on a better cpu cooler with a moderate fan for some heavier air testing.

Threw together a system that some of the more budget minded users would use to see what kind of results can be acchieved.

AMD Phenom II 550 locked multi C3
    ASUS M4A89GTDPRO/USB3
    ASUS EAH5770
    OCZ BE 2x2g 1600 7-7-7
    PC P&C 750 silencer
    Megahalems something or other heatsink

Should have some results in a little while.

Edit prime 95 results done. A bit of voltage to spare but 4 gig is good enough for a dual core

    4.5 is easy.

    Some 3d on air with a 5770.

Don't think this particular model is meant to OC as good as the TOP's so I just ran a mild OC.

    Week 0931

    Some 2 X 4850 results.

Vantage seems to have an issue.

Possibly have found a bug, need to work on it more tommorow. Not sure if its driver or board related yet, could be just mismatched non ref cards.

Cards both do well over 800/1150 individually but lock any higher than 700 core in crossfire with 9.12 with and without hotfix.

    thx for d info sir...

    sorry for off topic:

one thing i noticed about swappin cards on x-fire mobo, d bandwidth thingy tends to get screwed up when i unplug & plug (could be d case of positions swapped) my 3850s from d board. it (primary slot) can be perfectly fine (x16 @ pci-e 2.0) but x4 @ pci-e 2.0/pci-e d other time. to resolve this i need to reseat d cards and/or reinstall catalyst...

    any advice on this issue?

Sounds like a board/bios issue. The board is supposed to switch IIRC when it sees the second card.

Tested a couple more chips to verify unlocking.

    555 was untested prior.

Just tossed voltage and ran chip up real quick.

Swapped to a 555BE now, mainly to test ram compatibility as I see alot of reports from users stating the IMC is NOT capable of 1800 ram speeds.

Doesn't seem to be a cpu problem with micron d9 on this board with a 555BE , elpida testing next.

Corsair Elpida testing @ 1800 done with 555BE. As you can see even when not running 100% optimal settings or a tuned windows they have quite the lead over micron d9.

One thing to note is with this board and tall heatspreaders on ram due to there spaced dimm configuration causes heatsink interference. Luckily for me I have long since compensated for this and purchased a heatsink that allows for various orientations however you may want to keep this in mind.
