I dunno, before the 5 series came out, the matrox tripleheads were £350 each if you found a good deal.

two of them would be in the same ballpark as the six but nowhere near the processing power

About time! I hope it's not going to be overpriced.
2GB of GDDR5 goodness, can't wait to have a look at some reviews to see how much it actually helps!

Finally the HD5830! I can't wait, sounds like a fun core. I wonder if the HD 5870 Eyefinity 6 Edition will have 2 GB of GDDR5. It would make nice marketing sense.

edit: guess I should have clicked through, 2 GB of GDDR5

Let me ask a simple question... or two.

The 5870, it has two DVI and 1 mini-dvi port or something (forgot at the moment). Can it actually do 3 monitors?

If so and supports 3 each, I'd love to see two 5870s in crossfire for eyefinity vs this single eyefinity card.

I say this because if the eyefinity 6 edition is more than double the cost, no thanks.

If I'm totally ignorant, just say no.

Where have you been in the last 6 months? Of course it can, and I think Crossfire Eyefinity is part of the current drivers. As for the price, it will probably be around 50$ premium over the vanilla 5870, as it has more memory and more video ports. So as for screen/card, the eyefinity 6 edition will definitely be in another league too. The only thing missing is performance figures with 6 x 30inches display, now that's Xtreme. Good luck on finding a reviewer that has that many though

the funny thing is that crossfire doesn't support 6 monitors, only up to 3. where you'd most need crossfire you won't have it.
Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

Thanks for the info. I've semi-followed the 5000 series. I'm not in the market right now since my gtx260 is holding strong.

I have 3 monitors right now, so I need 2 cards. Its a lot of power wasted just to run a tv w/ an 8800gts g92 as second card.

I just hope this experiment that ATI is doing with eyefinity is a success b/c I might be looking at the 6000/7000 series if it supports this.

$50 premium is NOTHING. I wish I could say I'm in for one, but I'm not. Damn lack of funds!

in 5xxx I can run 2x DVI + 1xDP screen or DP @ DVI active adapter

so if in 5870 six I can do 4x DVI + 2x DP or 2x dp @ dvi acitve adapters I will grab one

as someone mentioned about matrox unit, OK, but matrox operate 5040x1050 max not fullHD, and also not all monitors can support 57Hz refresh rate,
also one more advanteage - less mess in cables (like with 2x matrox th2g units)

Can't wait! This will probably be the card to get if Fermi doesn't live up to everyone's expectations.

About damn time they released this thing! IMO this thing should come with 2gb of ram to help support huge eyefinity resolutions. And the xfire drivers need to be working asap! Oh, and let the adapter mayhem begin for anyone without dvi monitors. If they really nail the features on this card I'm buying one, either selling my current 5870 and upgrading or ideally buying this to run xfire with a 5870 (unless it is 2gb then that won't work.)

a 2GB and a 1GB can run in xfire it will just disable half of the ram on the larger card, im not sure how that hits performance though

I'd be all huffy and puffy if you were calling me out on past behaviour, but someone had to step up to the plate and call them on their terrible behaviour. I'm guessing you haven't actually read their vomi - postings in various GPU threads. Also, do you play COD5?

Thanks for the heads up. Will be doing prodding for samples tomorrow!

I was dumb enough to buy into R600 (typing this on my machine with 8800GTX SLi btw, had to bake one to resurect it tho), so I'm sure there are plenty people dumb enough to buy into Fermi even if ATi drops an equivalent performance 5890 the same day like it did with GTX275!

I personally expect a $75 USD premium at the least. $50 is much too low for twice the GDDR5 PLUS 3x the display outputs. It may very well be $100+.

A higher clocked varrient with 2GB is what most people will be interested in. Myself, I don't want to pay for another 3 outputs. Also the fact that Eyefinitys recent CFX support is limited to 3 displays makes this somewhat pointless. If they had CFX support for 6 displays then that would be something ( given the computation power required to power that much screen space ) It SHOULD be possible, it is just a waiting game at this point. Hopefully they get proper driver support out soon after the cards release as I expect most people buying these will be wanting / needing 2 anyways.

^ i agree, CF should allow 6 displays, and since it cant, it would be nice to know if they are trying hard to provide it, or gave up.
