    My 1st 920 and Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R

I just Picked up a I7 920 DO. This is my 1st Quad and a new adventure into the 1366 platform.
I think I may have some DUD OCZ 1600 Memory or a bad cpu, or it could be just the fact that I know crap about all these voltages and bios settings.
I do know I cant get my memory to run but on the lowest divider @ 573mhz to get to 4ghz on the cpu. My QPI/VTT seems like it needs to be high also 1.42v any lower and all frezzes. I doesn't mater if I raise the Vcore or the PLL I can't lower the QPI/VTT.

    Here is my voltages
    Vcore 1.275
    QPI/VTT 1.420
    PLL 1.800
    Dram 1.64

    Mem 2:6
    7-7-7-16
Didn't make a difference if I loosed timings or raised voltages any time trying to run 1500+Mhz system was unstable.

I'm running a Megahalem and temps never go above 63c

    Any Tips/Tricks would be appreciated.

    rise up the v-core!

    enable the load line calibration

    set v-qpi at 1.34

ensure if the uncore frequency is at double of ram speed.

reset the bios and change only:

    blck 200mhz
    cpu multiplier x20
    uncore 3200mhz
    ram 1600 8 8 8 24 2t

    load line calibration enabled

    v-core 1.3v (after try lower)
    v-qpi 1.34v
    v-dimm 1.64v

I tried your settings and I abruptly crashed with in a few min. I did how ever have all the CPU throttling functions disabled.
I then proceeded to reset my cpu and mem did just as you said and all is well. All the cpu throttlers are enabled right now and I've been doing prime for 15 min or so.

    My new voltages settings

    vcore 1.350 probably can lower
    QPI/VTT 1.34
    PLL 1.800
    Dram 1.64
    Everything else auto
    loadline set to 1
    200x20
    Mem@1600 8-8-8-24
    Max temp 67c during prime

I think when I disable the The CPU Throttlers (eist and the others)I'll be come unstable again. Does it matter? I never see CPU fluctuating.

Big Thanx to Andrea deluxe for guiding me in the right direction. and the guide over at overclockers.com

    I'm now running at 4.2 200x21

    vcore 1.350
    qpi/vtt 1.34
    dram 1.66
ioh core 1.40 I have a fan on the NB now got a little warm 1.38 might work
    PLL 1.8
    Temps 64c high
    mem 1600 9 9 9 24 2t gunna try 8 8 8 24 1t again later
    all CPU throttlers off
    HT off
prime stable for 45 min now

When I changed the IOH voltage my computer got quieter. It actually sounded like a hard drive loading data all the time.

This has turned out to be a great, affordable upgrade. 199.00 920-219.00 MB-135.00 Ram GO MICRO CENTER

I can now choice CrossX/SLI and have the latest USB/SATA spec.......I'm geeeeked. all for a 530.00 upgrade

    Thanx all

I just got the i7-920 from 2nd-hand market at 10hrs ago and result as you see.

    vCore : 1.30000(bios), 1.264 (cpu-z @idle), 1.248 (cpu-z @fulload)
    vDRAM : 1.62
    QPI/VTT : 1.335
    QPI : x36
    Uncore : x16

for the vCore and vDRAM cannot lower than this >_<" (it will cause unstable).

Can anyone give me some suggest ?

Is it just me or does it look like (on the UD5 and UD3R) that the NB and the other heatsink with the blue plate on top of them would cool better without the blue plate on top of them? Kind of looks like they would restrict the amount of potential airflow into them and thus the cooling…

JohnLoph: I would try bumping up the vcore and going with 200x21. Also you seem to be running hot. once I got 200x20 stable it was just a couple of tweaks to get 4.2ghz out of my chip. This is plenty fast for me I just came off a E8400 3.8ghz so this feels blazing fast for me. Does any1 think the voltages I'm running will damage in a couple years time? But by then their will be better boards and better prices.

I've also switched to the F3 bios.

I think someone should to start a X58A-UD3r thread.

I had an Asus P6t fail on my main work PC, so I next day aired the Gigabyte and threw a quick OC on it, so I did not have much time to play with it, but judging by the amount of V core the chip took I don't think this chip would do much more than 4.35Ghz-4.45Ghz 24/7.
The board has ran non stop since I got it, no BSOD's no issues at all, except for, IMHO, a very hot NB, added a fan to it, and now all is happy.
Here is a quick run, temps are great swiftech 120.3 rad, swiftech CPU block, D5 pump.
The board seems very solid, seems to OC well, took less than 2 hours to get the settings I have now, it passed 50 passes of Linx max mem, and 20 hours of prime95. wish I had more time to play with it..

Little update: Tonight I decided to try and see what this board can do with a little more tweaking. As of right now I'm pushing 210x21 for 4.4ghz ON AIR!!! I can't believe this . I thought I would never have any luck and get a decent overclocker for once the gods are on my side.

I will post voltages tomorrow after more tweaking.

This makes me want to run to MC and upgrade! My poor tax return...

So which fan(s) did you pick up to put on the megahelm and did you do any extra cooling on the NB? Or at least re-paste the pipe that's on there?

Let us know what your voltages are at, i'm about ready to go pick this configuration up! I want 4+ Ghz for bfmc2 and folding!

Never checked the TIM on NB, just slapped this baby in and just went with it. I can't remember which fan I went with it's a 120 that spins about 1850 rpms and I used the TIM that came with the Megahalems for the cpu.

Voltages are a little on the high side right now 1.425 Vcore in windows. Still tweaking, I can't seem to get it to run with HT on but at 4.4ghz who cares. I'll bring a screen shot tomorrow.

Last I tried I wasn't able to get HT on. I thought I would tweak away getting all else settled with some lower voltages and I've tightened up the timings to 8-8-8-24 now.
HT on or off 4.4ghz is fast after getting off a 3.85ghz E8400
I'll try HT on again later

And thats a monster OC you got there justin.kerr 4.7 w/HT on

thanks. It is the best D0 chip I have tried yet. also the first one.
most I get 4.4Ghz-4.5Ghz the one in my Gigabyte x58a ud3 seems pretty crappy, but it is just a work mule so I really don't care if I can squeeze out a couple hundred more Mhz, temps are good, and performance is plenty.

The 7.1 is right for your setting. If you are using the 5.1 then you can just switch the rear pair to the side pair jack.

I found I get no surround sound no matter what I play if it isn't strictly encoded for surround.
If I put a SRV DVD in the surround works like a champ.

You may try search for "gigabyte x58a-ud7 living review" There is some good bios templates for 920. I know it's a different motherboard but it was a great way for me to know I was on the right track. My 920 d0 is batch #3944A788 and it did 4.5ghz at 1.40625 vcore, linx x20 stable.
