Why Does Windows Media Player Not Close?

After closing it from the program the app is still active in Task Manager and is using 30mb of RAM and CPU cycles. WTF?

This is in Windows 7 Pro btw.

What's the name of the process? Could be something else it's tied into, like the extender service or something.

wmplayer.exe *32, I have also noticed this on a few other programs like AIM and firefox.

it's like W7 is leaving open their executable to reduce load times, I mean I have 8Gb of RAM but I'd still like the programs to turn off.

I also had this problem, with me it was Windows Sideshow what was causing the problem.
Just try to disable it, Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Windows Sideshow > Windows Media Player.

Hopefully this will work for you.
