    AMD Athlon II X4 620 L3 unlocked

Well, X4 620 retail sample with unlocked L3, these chips are really rare ones to find...

And I have one in wrong time, my test ddr3 ram is history so my am3 mobo is out of business right now, cheap am2+ mobo and ddr2 ram are temporary replacement...

So, not optimized benchmarks, win 7 x64 just to see how good chip is untill I buy new ddr3 ram for overclocking...

    Some pics:

    Hw default info:

    Default temperature:

    CPU-Z Validation - 4199MHz

    SuperPi 1M - 17.284s

    Pifast - 28.63s

    wprime 32M - 10.062s

    Max stress stable

Chip is very nice, mounted on the right mobo and ram it will be bad ass 620, nice cpu and nb freq on air already...

Because of unlocked L3 cache most of this results are 620 first places at hwbot...

    Unlocked X4 640

    Hi!
I have an Athlon II X4 640, Stepping is CACYC 0938DPMW. Right now I'm running at stock volts, stock cooler, with a fugly Gigabyte M85M-US2H board.

It passes Prime flawless for 2hs, and OCCT Linpack test... wich it's enough for me. But when I use it with the L3 cache unlocked I get a warning in the Windows System Events that says:

"A corrected hardware error has occurred.

    Component: AMD Northbridge
    Error Source: Corrected Machine Check
    Error Type: 28
    Processor ID: 0

The details view of this entry contains further information."

No problems so far. NB is running at 2466Mhz, memory at 822Mhz 4-5-5-13

Does anybody have the same warning with the unlocked cache?

I take it one cant unlock L3 cache on a sb600 mobo?

    which mobo's unlock this?

    ---------------------------------------------------------

debating what I should do to replace my boring Phenom 9850...

go with the $99 Athlon II X4 620 and a new am3/am2+ mobo, still keeping my ddr2 ram... and try unlocking the L3...

or just get a 965 C3 and wait for 890FX mobos

You need a board with ACC or NVCC to unlock the L3 (SB710, SB750 on AMD boards, and with nVidia I think 8100/8200 series have it, but only on the latest revision).

Anyway, an Athlon II X4 620 will clock between 3.6~3.9Ghz, and it will outperform your Phenom I even without the L3.

Unfortunately I'm unable to unlock the cache on my 620, I get no video when I enable ACC. On the Bright side the 620 is an excellent OC'er (3.8GHz 1.425v)
    Best $89 CPU ever.

Cele303 would you ran a couple of Cinebench 10 64-bit tests (32-bit is ok if it’s easier for you) at the highest clock you can but with the L3 locked or disabled and then with it unlocked? I’m interested in knowing how much difference the L3 makes. BTW, great test results on the 620.

here is a good review about the difference between L3 cache enabled and disabled.

they underclocked a 965 to 2.6 ghz to compare.

    http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/A...X4_620/10.html

seems like the L3 cache mostly helps in games.

also OC'd it to 3.6 ghz and it beats the 965 in every test except for games

    hope this helps
