Hotfix for Win7/2008/Vista x64 enables extra power savings on AMD cpus

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/974090/

An update is available that enables the operating system to take advantage of the Enhanced C1 state (C1E) for lower power consumption offered by an AMD multicore processor on the x64-based versions of Windows Vista SP2, of Windows Server 2008 SP2, of Windows 7, or of Windows Server 2008 R2
You may request them (Win7/2008R2 and Vista/2008) here: http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/...x?kbnum=974090

I uploaded them to a file hosting site in case you don't want to request them:

    Windows6.1-KB974090-x64.msu
    Windows6.0-KB974090-x64.msu

Maybe this will fix the issue where my clock goes out of sync when I have C1E enabled. I will test this tonight. If I wake up and my system clock is 10 minutes slower than it should be, I'll be pissed all over again!

EDIT: I just requested the patch from MS themselves to make sure I get the correct file. The file they sent says "The update does not apply to your system". WTF is this crap?!
EDIT 2: Ah I didn't have SP2 installed. Seems the Korean language package isn't supported by SP2 and never installed automatically. I uninstalled it, installed SP2, and installed the C1E patch just fine.

Where do you enable it? Isn't it part of the APIC? That is enabled in the BIOS.

In my BIOS it is under Processor Configuration I think.

Microsoft is probably taking a count of how many people actually care enough to download this. I'd suggest we all go through them to let them know they need to get more support for AMD out faster. I got mine emailed to me almost instantly after I submitted my email addy.

It has nothing to do with AMD; lots of updates are available only via support.
