    Using stock cooling.

    I have my reasons.

So anyway, hate to dissapoint you guys but I already knew these would not fare well on AMD thus why I have never reccomended them. I didn't purchase them for this system though, just figured i'd test them and break the myth/bad advice that all ram will run rated specs on all platforms.

Hitting the reboot loop point on the giga....that tells me that I need to break out phase to push further with these. Preety sure they will crack 1800 as they did so testing single sticks but not at the most optimal timings. I can tighten some of the timings more but not the 3 primaries nor does there seem to be gains doing so performance wise.......90 ns btw.....

Ripjaw testing cancelled.....1 stick failing test 2 in memtest underclocked........other stick is fine but can not run rated of 7-7-7 ( reboot loop with any attempt to set cas 7 )

Nice, glad to see some testing on this RAM. My Ripjaws will not do the advertised timings, but can do 8-7-6-15 just fine. Can't wait to see what a more experienced enthusiast can do with 'em.

amd can't run ddr3-2000 due to imc limitations, so NO - they won't be able to run stock with amd

Yeah... it would be virtually impossible to get 2 GHz RAM running stable on AMD... no matter how loose the timings...

Ouch... that's harsh on the Ripjaws. I do not think they are very good RAM sticks...

Nah its not that they just aren't meant for AMD. Tridents advertise right on box for Intel i7 cpu's ( which is what we got the set for )

Ripjaws advertise for intel p55 chipset etc i5 cpu's.

I will try the Tridents tommorow in my asus....that tends to like 4 gig dimms + elpida based Ic's a tad better.

Okay, I'll rephrase... they aren't very good RAM sticks for AMD boards It's unfortunate no one I know has a P55 board... I'd like to see if mine will do the specified settings on the right board.

Just so happens I have a p55 and i5 860 on the way and my own stash of binned powerchips FYI those do run 7-7-7 1600 on AMD.

Chew* how well do these sticks fare with tweaking? I know there is no way they can run stock on AMD at this time, but do you think these will do well with tight timings, or are there cheaper/better options for AMD?

Cheaper and better options are most of the time two different things!

Thanks for the tests chew*! Just to get that right, Tridents are BBSE, Ripjaws are PSC, correct?

G.Skill has some serious problems with quality control on their Ripjaw kits it seems, I have read about so many DOA kits here and in some German forums...

Those are tweaked settings on the Tridents albeit not 100%. I need to toss phase on to final tune them as I can not max them out on air. Board limitation.

I will give the asus a whirl.....I know that board likes elpida better and also does not hit a wall on air.

The giga tends to run a very tight ship with ram, usually don't acchieve as high an OC.

DonDan Afaik since i'm not pulling spreaders for RMA reasons ripjaws c7 1600 is PSC. Tridents from all the pics I have seen are BBSE.

    Fine

Let me rephrase, what would Chew* recommend as benching sticks I can buy? The tricky part is I know all good ICs etc. but I really have no good computerstore near me where I can handpick a few good modules... So basically I am forced to buy expensive RAM with heatspreaders I suppose my budget is around $100-ish ofcourse cheaper is always better if possible, and I'd prefer ordering inside of EU or this shop: http://www.memoryc.com/

If you want cheap benching sticks look for these......bet money they are d9 gts....your not going to find 2x2g 1800 6-6-6 in your budget though.

    Little update......

Tossed the tridents in my ASUS boots 1 stick.....refuse to boot with 2.....post code d5......played with timings....etc etc no luck. Will swap out with the rest of my asus boards to see if I can get one to boot.....

Might add all my asus boards are currently pending RMA.....etc they all have issues to start with.

At 1.9 specced voltage they can't be much else than GTS.
    FYI the 2000 kits were specced 9-9-9 2000 1.9v.....

Not over yet just becasue they can't run optimal timings for AMD doesn't mean they can't be enticing
