    naked w3520

    almost there at last!

    my high-tech holding tool

nearly done, still need to get rid of a thin copper layer and the solder

at first i didn't want to remove the copper surrounding but i removed it after all

    done!, will it boot?

of course it still works, i can't believe you doubted

the IHS have been sanded down totally using power tools, the only problem is the heat generated by the sanding action.

I've tried everything i had under the hand:

Belt sander > generated lots of heat, probably the worst of them all, but the sandpaper was done and didn't bother changing it to see if it helped.

Grinder/flapdisc > did 80% of the job with this, generates LOTS of heat. 20sec sanding/2minutes off

8" disc sander > with 60 grit that thing works really good, no to be used toward the end tho, or with very little pressure

orbital sander > than thing amazed me, even with gritty sandpaper it doesn't leave a mark and doesn't generates heats like the other tools. you can literally sand without stopping. But it's slow compared to the hardcore sanders
Next time i lap a CPU i'll use this to get the top off and finish by hand

hand> works good as usual but not fast enough for me

    why i did this?
just for the hell of it
cpu is damaged, but still works see sig for what it can do, but can't stay on without a bsod for a more than a few hours in a row. He deserved some punishments after so many hassle

don't try this at home, dangerous procedure!
