black cosmos S and watercooling [photos]

    hey everyone,

just finished my core i7 rig, and wanted to share it with you.
maybe some of you might find a few ideas for themselves (that's what I've done for a few months to get to this point).

    so here I go...

let's start with the many parts I used:

and then, after many many hours of hard work (I actually started with a CoolerMaster CM 690, which was to small to get enough air on the radiators...), this is what I got:

    A little bit of explanations...

When you see the first picture of a stock Comos S, sometimes you would think it's black.... No no no! it ain't! it's faded grey, and did'nt look so nice to me. So the whole case (inside too) has been painted in shiny black (by a car painter) so not only it looks great, it is also pretty strong paint!

I designed a sticker with the BloodRage logo and had it printed by a friend, then got 4 white LEDs behind... well, you'll see for yourself!
(wanna get the JPEG of the sticker to get one... or want it printed... ask me!)

Behind the 3rd "grill" from the bottom, I have a DVD burner. The "grill" has been fixed to the sliding part... works well and looks awesome!

I also modded my Zalman ZM-MFC1 to be hidden behind the top "grill"... and now the front looks united. (if that means anyhting in English )

Inside the beast. I managed to get only two colored parts for almost everything... and painted what wasn't. So it's all black and red! The hard part was to get a silent but yet efficient watercooling solution. The first pump I had in the CM690 (Eheim) was very loud (don't know why, the ones I used before never were! )So I decided to get a Laing DDC with its plexi top and tank... and don't regret it!

Now I cool my core i7 920 (D0) to 38°C idle (less then 50°C on load) @ 4GHz 24/7... which is cool I'd say and can hardly hear it!

Oh... wanna see inside maybe ??
    Here you go:

and now with the lights on...

    I hope you liked it...

    That. Is beautiful.

Well chosen components, nicely sleeved and put together, cables all taken care of, every single piece of hardware colour matched... You really couldn't ask for more... (except maybe another 4850 - good choice with XFX BTW - and some more HDDs).

    And sweeeeeet BloodRage mod.

Nice, I noticed your magma's up top exhaust air. You may find it better to intake air from outside the case to cool your top radiator. As is they are blowing the warmer internal air across the radiator.

Thanx... It wasn't that easy to get the right parts for the colour matching, but when you know a bit what's made and where to get it...
I though about getting 2 4850... but since I'm no gamer really... maybe some day, if I got the money, the time, the use... ?!
about HDDs... well 1To is already big enough for me (I store on external HDD too), but I'm really thinking about an SSD (tried it with a built I did for a friend, and liked it much)

actually I'm blowing the air out to cool the rest of the parts (RAM, mofsets... which are air cooled) and since I have that big opening on the side of the case, the air I'm blowing through the rad's not that hot! and it works fine like this, so I'm not really willing to get my hands dirty again!

not exactly I think... I'm using metric here. The tubing is 9,5mm in, and 15,9mm out. 7/16' is more like 11,1/15,9... this last size would be a bit too large for my fittings!

Did you rewire your Corsair PSU ? The 24pin wires on that arent black they are the standard multi colour wires but sleeved.

    good point you got there....
took me a while to figure this out!
actually, since I needed an extension for the 24-pin, I bought 4 of them and only kept the black cables!! cost more, but looks better
same thing for the 4-pin, but we almost can't see it !

Sick setup!! I love it. Only thing is I really don't like the Cosmos S because of its old school interior design, with the drive bays all turned inside. The original looks much higher quality IMO. I just recieved my Cosmos today & I love it. Blew my expectations away.

yeah, it takes a little more time (not that much), but I find it more comprehensive andit looks good that way too.

I do that rather often when I prepare a setup for someone. that's the kinda file I send them by email so they can see what's it's gonna be (they usually understand better the cost too!)

yeah I thought about getting the black edition of the cosmos... would have been easier that painting this thing like I did!!!
but I needed room for the watercooling rads and pump so the 6 hard-drives bay was an obstacle to me. and you don't have the same top either for the 360 rad! besides I like the outer look better... so the choice was made for me

but I'm glad you find something you like and hope we'll see your pics soon ! let me know !

    almost forgot.
    for the BloodRage fans...
here's the background I designed (used the BlackOps one and worked on it!)

    with Core i7 logo

    with Core i7 extreme logo

(they're the old Core i7 logos...but that's easy to change)

actually I had that done by a friend of mind who does all sorts of commercial printings (t-shirt, store boards...) and he's got that huge color printer (like 2 meters wide) on which he can print sticker. I asked him to print this logo on a clear sticker and sticked it on a diffusing white plexi board (3mm thick), put 4 white LEDs behind and VOILA !!!
I really did not think it would come that well. the printing quality's just the best I've ever seen!

ps: like I said, I can give you the image I used, or even have it printed for ya!

easy one: Photoshop is your friend !!!
I choose the parts I want, get a nice picture of each one on the web, copy it on Photoshop and resize it the way I want to fit the image... very easy, but takes a bit of time. You might want to save your work from time to time (had bad experiences... ) You can do that on other painting sofware, but I'd say Photoshop is the best.

Sweet rig. Once again makes me want to send my 1000 out for powdercoating. :yep:

I like the all black power wires. It looks great and a nice alternative to Murdermods sleeving.

But doesn't each picture of the products have different back grounds? Or do you find shots that have white backgrounds?
