    4890 Voltage Increase Methods

Ok guys, I bit the bullet and ordered a bunch of equipment yesterday to upgrade my current 4870/512MB Crossfire setup to 4890/1GB Crossfire and also ordered a whole new watercooling loop just for the vid cards as my current loop will not be able to sustain 2 4890s with tweaked voltage...which leads me to the topic of the thread...

Since I will be running 2x4890's in Crossfire -- (one is MSI brand, and one is HIS brand if it matters, both appear to be reference design) both will have full coverage waterblocks -- what application(s) is/are out there that will allow me to increase voltage to both cards permanently? (like a BIOS update or something in Rivatuner, etc.?)

Thanks very much -- this is the last piece to my puzzle.

supposedly you can use Rivatuner, with a config file tweak to work for the 4890, to increase voltage and then a scheduler in Riva to apply the higher voltage at each bootup. While I got the voltage increase to work, I could not figure out the scheduler to apply voltage at bootup :/

Rivatuner works wonderfully per this guide: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...ghlight=vt1165

you just need an extra config file to make riva recognize the 4890 - the zip is attached

new bios will be available soon so we can all just flash higher clocks with a bumped voltage... we will all sit at 1ghz.....

Sniipe I went to download this today now that I've got my 4890's installed but I get an error --

    Error

This file is neither allocated to a Premium Account, or a Collector's Account, and can therefore only be downloaded 10 times.

    This limit is reached.

To download this file, the uploader either needs to transfer this file into his/her Collector's Account, or upload the file again. The file can later be moved to a Collector's Account. The uploader just needs to click the delete link of the file to get further information.

Help. I really want that plugin to make Riva recognize my 4890s.

Alright tweaking is under way via AwardFabrik's Voltage Factory. Stock volts allow me to go to 925MHz/1080MHz on both cards stable in Crysis for 1+ hours of gaming. Above this (tested up to 975MHz at stock volts) doesn't cause crashes, but it does cause artifacting. Load voltage on both cards @ stock is 1.31 volts. I'm now bumping to 1.35 volts to see what we can get....

** What is the max safe recommended gpu core voltage on a 4890 that's on straight water?

I asked a similar question and didnt get an answer but I have seen people recommending 1.4 volts as being safe on water

    Thanks for the reply DP.

Latest findings are 1.38 volts allows 975MHz core clock stable on both cards in Crossfire. No artifacts. Before I push to 1GHz, I am curious if RBE is flashing the 4890 successfully currently? I will likely need to flash both cards to open up higher clock availability in CCC.

1.40 volts allows 1GHz core clocks on both cards, stable. VRM temps are getting outta control though ~100*C even with the full cover WBs. I may just hold there. Mem is stable @ 1080MHz.

Was able to get 1000mhz core to pass furmark 400 seconds. Upped the voltage to 1.35. The numbers look low to me, before I was getting better fps. Do I need to take the second card out and retest? I disabled cf in CCC.

My VRMS touch 80C max with EK 4890 LT blocks at 1000/1000 with 1.42v. Is your block mounted securely?

Too many tubes to get down in there and really look (running two loops, not very organized ), but during inspection of the blocks after installation, everything LOOKED good. Maybe your loop is just more efficient, or better contact for your VRMs? Going by what Sniipe said, if 125*C is operating temp, I'm still under that so I'm ok with that for now. This is as hot as my house gets during the summer as well (~75*F) so hopefully I can survive the summer and enjoy the ~63*F once it starts cooling down.

Can anybody chime in with their experiences pushing the core with up to 1.5 volts on water? What did your temps look like for the v-regs?

    room temp = 26c
    Defaults clocks with wc
