    Asus Crosshair III Formula coming

    Hi,

Asus is preparing to launch new Asus Crosshair III Formula motherboard based on AMD 790FX chipset. This motherboard is especially optimized for Phenom II and extreme-overclocking and is part of ROG series:

    - 8+2 phases
    - TweakIt with keyboard
    - two PCI Express x16 for CrossFireX

Will be launched during Computex 2009 in June and price will probably be ~200 euros.

less slots and worse slot placement than m4A79t deluxe

this board looks worse (in terms of components used / placment) than 790FX UD5; DFI 790 M3H5 and the GD-70)

Why is this a crossfire mobo, the previous crosshairs were SLI?

Thats what I was wondering when I saw the spec. Certainly is odd, maybe Asus thought of adding another fruity flavour from the red team to add to the fray.

tweakit with keyboard, so it can be accessed via ps2 and usb keyboards? that would be nice!

good cpu pwm apparently, any word on what the max vcore is? i mean max tested, not max theoretical
only 1 phase memory... but looks like a beefy phase, so thats good too
    good slot layout...
colors... a bit boring traditional asus style, heatsink, same... imo the board looks quite boring somehow, not really impressive...
    6 fan headers, good
only4 sata and only 1nic... a bit scarce for an rog highend board?

unfortunately i dont think we will see a highend amd socket sli board anytime soon.
nvidia doesnt allow sli on amd chipsets, not even with an nf200 bridge and license fee, but all they can offer are old chipsets which run hot and dont clock as well as the amd chipsets, at least afaik... :/
i hope nvidia changes their policy about this soon and will at least allow nf200 sli if not 5$ license sli on amd chipsets...

I agree not enough sata headers.

Its even worse when you consider alot of people use SATA optical drives. There's also only 6 usb, only a single ethernet port, missing a floppy(a good thing). This things starting to look like a budget board.

M4A79T blows this thing out of the water and is likely cheaper.

But man I see 8 fans headers. That nice, but almost kind of ridiculous.

Needs moar SATA, and the PCB looks really bare, actually...although PWM looks good.

although i am happy with the news of this, i just dont get the crossfire part

and for a crossfire board that single PCI slot is in a stupid place, i personaly wouldnt pay £50 for this board.

i had such high expectations for this release as well, as was told by my sources that it would be a Tri SLI board, so much for sources.

    ahh well

Looks a lot like the Rampage Extreme 2 cooling wise and OC options...
Puzzled why they ditched SLi for Crossfire though.. along with the lack of SATA connections..

Looks like it's more aimed at high end benching that feature endulgence like the old corsshair/ROG boards...

It's because Nvidia is repeating it's mistakes from the past, just like they didn't allow sli on intel chipsets (before x58) they are now not allowing it on AMD chipsets, but as brutally outdated as nvidia chipsets for amd are there can't really be a decent high end board based on a nvidia chipset, so say goodbye to SLI and AMD Cpu combo.

Looks a bit uncomfortably clean, like a value board (slightly)

    lets see...

    amd
    new chipset
    best ocing options
    overdrive
    active support from amd

    nvidia
    costs more
    runs hotter
    old chipset
    not the best ocing options
ntune lacks a lot of features and doesnt work as good as overdrive

i think it was right of them to go for the amd chipset... its unlikely that people who spend a lot on 2 nvidia highend vgas buy an amd platform which is slower and cheaper than intel platforms...

yeah i feel the same... too small heatsink i think... and more sata... a bigger heatsink covering some more of the pcb, maybe in some nice design and colors, and more sata plugs and it would look a lot more like a real highend board.

single ethernet, 6 usb, 5 sata... it really looks more like a value board from the specs and from the layout/design...
if it would be matx i could understand this, but full blown atx...

it has all it needs, but it doesnt really look like an rog highend board...

IMHO the newest MSI is still the best flagship AM3 board there is to date, followed by the GBT.

Where is Foxconn in all of this BTW?
