NEW BIOS SETTING: EC Firmware for ACC

Actually I just noticed that the newest F2 Bios for the Gigabyte MA790GP-UD4H actually does have 2 visual changes:

    1. ACC is now on the normal menu. (No need to use the CTRL-F1)

    2. They have added a new BIOS setting called:

EC Firmware for Advanced Clock Calibration.

It can be set to the following:

Normal = Used AMD normal EC Firmware for Advanced Clock Calibration
Hybrid = Used AMD particular EC Firmware for Advanced Clock Calibration

So... what is "AMD particular" as opposed to normal? Anyone have any ideas??
    FX-8350, Powercolor ATI R9 290X LCS, OCZ Vertex 4, Crosshair V Forumula-Z, AMD Radeon DDR3-2133 2x8Gb, Corsair HX1000W, Thermaltake Xaser VI, Xonar D2X, Water Cooling 140.3

    Heres My IDEA
The Firm update ,,Hybrid Unlocks 720's still for enthusiast ?and the Normal Option dosnt allow it .

New Bios both options . Hybrid would be the Unlocking Mode.

720's have caused a new Firmware update by (AMD)to Block ACC from Enabling x4core. AMD wants new Bioses to be updated , but dosnt mind that you have the option for Enthusiast. If your Overclocking and Unlocking your Doing (Hybrid)youll use it . By default it will be in normal Mode>

Some vendors are giving us Both Options now Via Bios update and like yours a Second option in the Firmware of ACC.

Im Not 100% shure if this is the Update For 720 ACC goodness .

If you have a 720 on hand toggle the Option. In (Hybrid) you should be able to unlock it . (Normal) it will stay locked . May be other way around .

.This is a wild guess .

AMD did give out New Firmware code for this and vendors could use ONLY the new update(blocking the X4core surprize),,

Maybe Gigabyte is going for us Enthusiast as it looks like both Options in the New Bios(just in case you like to tweak things ).

    Need Tweaker to test theory,,
Anyone have a720 that does unlock with the UD4? If so what happens when you flash to the Above Bios? Can you unlock it still?

    Tempted to get a UD4H or UD5 for a spare Mobo ..

It would be good for my720.
The old M3A79 does not Unlock unless I use 0030Mod Bios . The 703/803 all now have been updated from ASUS it looks.

So when i downloaded them they didnt work. As soon as i reloaded MODbios 0030 the ASUS Unlocked it.

It will be nice to use a Mobo that is 100% Bios updated(stabilty) and still unlocks a 720 with out aMODDED BIOS.

There is hope on the gigabyte side of things

I've requested it in every beta i've worked on to date seems they got the hint.

If you guys blow up your boards or cpu's I suggest not rma'ing them.........all good things come to an end..suck it up and BUY a new one........

Don't ruin a good thing for others.

Good job you were persistent chew*

I would get AM3 already but buying home is more important at the moment, so I need to control my spendings

Hint to AMD - releasing new Phenom revision would give me enough arguments to warrant new CPU and motherboard

Otherwise Gigabyte will solder unknown brand things on those poor mobos like Asus. Just joking.

Ec firmware are for all Gigabyte mobos?

I m trying the new f5a bios with the EC firmware setting for acc on a gigabyte ud4-p but cpuz still showing 3 threads/cores? :/

*edit* all seems to be well now, it just took an extra reboot after enabling for some reason to show the 4th core nice.

Thanks for the info man.... I was going to pickup UD4P this weekend for my 720BE, but if people can't get it to unlock the 4th core I'll stick with the Biostar.

Really wanted to play with DDR3 though.

If anyone has any luck with a UD4P please let us know how you did it...

If you don't mind, let me know how stability is after you play with / stress it a little villa1n.

Dave ,, the UD4 and 5 100% unlock em. Im actually debating between the two ATm. I need a new ACC capable mobo with just a single slot Vid solution . Most likely a UD4(dont need any more Bells Whistle stuff than this) is looking to replace my TA770 for the 720

I have 4 cores 3.5 ghz right now, ran occt for an hour no probs, 1.475 volts on cpu nb vid and cpu ... keep in mind that i m running 8 gb of mushkin em ram, so i could probably get much higher if i plucked out 2 dimms, but for now i d rather have no page file hehe, but seems stable so far, i might try linpack and prime 95 tommorow just to be sure.

Ran LinPack OCCT and no problems, so I m gonna take it as stable, i could prime it, but I would rather get back to my COD4 and movies ^^. Very nice, although on reboot i had a couple random BSOD for Page Fault in non paged area, without stressing it, i bumped the cpu nb vid to 1.4, seems to have stopped that, but didnt bsod while under stress, just randomly.

I had a few of those happen and after changing my ram timings and voltages they went away, perhaps that is the source of those issues.

villa1n, gOtVoltage: Thanks for the info guys!

I've got some El'Cheapo DDR3 coming from NewEgg tommorow, so I'll probably run up to MicroCenter and pick up a UD4P on Saturday...

I seriously doubt you need 1.475 on the IMC
Maybe you need it for 8gb of ram, but I'd be willing to bet you could get by with much less.... Just a thought.

    anytime,,

The price is pretty good for Microcenter . I get 5% off my next Mobo or highest priced product

Just trying to save pennies for a new Raven and some other Stuff like DDR3. So i can move all Watercooling and my Hardware outa my Old Tower.

NOTE: He could Try giving the CHIPSET/NB a bump in volts and then Lower CPU/NB volts a hair to 1.45 or so. Can work sometimes .

Does anyone know the best bios for the 790XT-UD4P (unlocking required), is the F4G release the best available?

I know where to get early release/beta's for MSI and Asus, but no clue as far as GBT is concerned...

I just loaded the F4G bios on the 790XT-UD4P and the hybrid ACC option is there,
but AUTO and PER CORE settings just shutdown the system. It seems that I got a
disabled 'disabled' core (cpu is 0904EPMW 0032 batch).

But with this bios I got weird random reboots of the system - with just 3 cores
running and no overclock ...just like villa1n totally random and not under any stress
(changing the setting for sidebar gadget).

Also, is it normal that the system just shuts down after saving the ACC settings ...no
reboot just shutdown and then I need to use the CCMOS jumper to start the system
again. Is this the board's fault or the cpu fault?

When a few of the bios settings are changed you must do a cold boot or the system will hang and you then must totally clear CMOS to get it back.

They put in an automatic cold boot for when you change some of the bios settings. It only happens with a few of them and not all the time.

It scared the heck out of me the first time it did it... then I just found it annoying. Now I don't notice anymore.

But after the system hangs if I try to start the computer it does not boot.
Should I remove the power/turn PSU of and then on and try booting?

Its weird because so far every time I enabled ACC the sistem just hung
while others report booting with just 3cores or successfully with 4 cores
(nobody reported a need for a cold boot).

What should be the most safe procedure to try this:

    load fail-free settings in bios
    clear cmos
again load fail-free settings and reboot
    enable hybrid acc and reboot
set acc to auto or per core - at this point the system usually hangs after saving the settings

what then - turn psu of for a few seconds and then on and
    see if the system boots?
