CeBIT: Corsair raids the chassis market: competitors beware?

    http://img.hexus.net/v2/news/corsair...view/1-big.jpg

    More pics@source

The thing looks damn sexy (and probably pricey), this is something I wish the HAF would look more like.
I hope there is a side panel fan version, and maybe if anyone at Corsair reads this, please consider top 230mm fan exhausts!
Apparently the bottom bay is for 2.5" drives i.e. SSDs

At least by the pics it looks like a good and simple but working concept. Will be interesting to see the price but I definitely like the look of it.

But what about fans in the front? Doesn't look like the front would allow any and I do want fans on my HDDs.

Why would you want fans on devices that consume, literally, only few silly watts, and which are designed from ground up to operate without active cooling?
You were not supposed to see this.

Possible built in Rad holes at the top, plus they didn't include the silly drive bay steal/alu in the window. Looks nice.

I really really like the triple 120mm (rad) vents up top... TBH I could see myself buying one for around $300 if a triple rad will fit without major mods.

I guess when you have 5+ hard drives close together they generate a lot more heat. Personally I just like to have an intake fan in the front to help air flow.

Because I think the optimal temp for HDDs lies around 30~35C from a lifelengt perspective? I may have just been lucky but I haven't managed to get a HDD failure yet and I've owned 12 HDDs in total, including 7 Maxtors and the oldest Maxtor DiamondMax 9 160GB is around 7 years old and still works perfectly with no bad sectors. You really have to have a lot of luck to be able to have 7 Maxtor HDDs with 0 failures.

+ That. I have mine tightly packed together in the hdd bays. Without fan they'd run into 50C+ especially during summer. If I had only 1 or 2 HDDs I think I could manage without fans but I usually use 6x+ HDDs in the main comp.

its seems like corsair and intel want to dominate the whole pc market

intel is going to start making gpu's while corsair trys to take the chassis market

the chassis seems like a good start but it looks like they are trying to copy lian-li cases(plain and simple)

See, that's a misconception with harddrives. My dad has had a Maxtor in his Dell for 5 years now, one of the early 160GB SATAs. No active airflow, sits at 55°C daily for 8 hours at a time. No problems.

Harddrive operating temps aren't supposed to be under 40°... they oil lubricates best at something over 50°C.

Looks like a great case, hopefully the price isn't insane. Is there any ballpark on when it'll be out?

Looks like a feser could fit perferctly on top also looks very nice and simple like some have mentioned, but other than that there isn't another place to put up a rad for a second loop :/

Added more links with pics and video in the first post

cost is about £250 GBP / $300 USD (surely a bit of a big mark up there for UK? :p)

Apparently the cebit sample is very early and will under go many changes before release

@ the HDD cooling concerns, there is a 140mm fan for drive cooling, please watch the video

This is actually an interesting idea, that the intake and exhaust for HD's is completely inside the case. Since he doesn't have the front of the case ready, however, I'm wondering how closed/open in will be. I think that's what will make or break the noise level on this thing. That said, I still am VERY confused why case makers continue to include such a HUGE space for optical drives. It's wasted, period.

They could easily add 3-5 more hot swap bays above it.

The case has a 140mm fan for blowing air across the four hot swappable bays, the airflow in this case works different, there's no front intake fans. All intake is done from the bottom of the case right now, through vents. The case sits about 1-2" above the floor on feet to allow for this, and pretty much the entire bottom is perforated with ventilation holes. The fan intakes from the bottom, blows across the hard drives, and the air is then ducted out behind the motherboard tray plenum for the hard drive cooling section.

The Motherboard/GPU cooling section is cooled by intake through the bottom with another 140mm fan, and exhaust through the rear. On the tooling sample at CEBIT there are a lot of pre-production bugs. The final version will have mounting holes for the triple 120mm radiator on top, as well as watercooling holes pre-cut in the separator between the PSU chamber and the motherboard chamber. This is an entirely custom chassis so it's taken some time to develop. Glad you guys like it for the most part.

The cable management looks wonderful. March/April timeframe eh, sounds good to me.

Redbeard: Interesting, so would a 120.2 radiator down below be a possibility? That would rank this up there with the TJ07 in terms of no-modification radiator readiness.

Redbeard, is Corsair considering mounting space for a 140mm rear fan, certainly enough room for one.
What about larger top exhaust for 230mm fans?

We're looking into it as we speak. We might release future variants of the case targeted towards specific uses, like large diameter top/side panel fans, etc. But right now the case doesn't allow for a large top exhaust for a 230mm fan.

Keep in mind the version at CEBIT is a pre-tooling prototype and the overall features and design might change a bit between now and launch.

Should everything work out we hope to have the case in stores in early May.

redbeard i think your companie's case would be absolutely outstanding if you made some kind of ongoing thread in the watercooling section.. case appears to be designed for watercooling, and us watercoolers know exactly what we want(especially a certain few.. naekuh..) and with their support the sales of this case would take off.. you'll literally have people lining up to purchase these,
much like the TJ07(whose reign imo is much over due)

i think it'd be a great feature to be able to fit a 2 x 120mm rad in the front bottom + a pump and res ontop of it.
    dual loops, one 2 x 120 for GPU. 3 x 120 for CPU+NB..

i really like the clean look, and the elevated bottom.
