The i7 Overclocking Study Thread... post your OC settings.

Hello everybody. As some of you may know from my postings in the general i7 overclocking thread, I am attempting to collect data on people's i7 overclocks in order to figure out what allows some users to get relatively high OC's on such low voltages.

My hypothesis is that the secrete is in how all the various settings and voltages relate to each other... in a sort of harmony. Thus many of us who seem stuck at high voltage overclocks may be in that situation more as a result of an unbalance in settings/voltages than in your "unlucky" batch number.

So... here is what I need in order to complete this study: Will those of you who have relatively low voltage 3.8ghz i7 overclocks and higher please post in your complete settings and voltages, as well as basic system info such as your CPU, batch number (if you know it), motherboard, and CPU cooler. Leave nothing out please. It is very important that I have equivalent data from each of you in order to compare them precisely. Also, will you please try to post the data in a roughly similar fashion that I give below in the example.

Heres an example of how I'd like the data to be posted. But if you have more settings or voltages please include them, as this is only a basic example.

    ================================================== ==================================

    System Info:

    i7 920 @ 3.8ghz (Batch 3837A769), Asus P6T Deluxe motherboard (1003 BIOS), OCZ Platinum DDR3 1333 RAM, Noctua air cooler

    Settings:

    CPU Ratio: 19x
    BCLK: 200
    DRAM: 1203 mhz
    UCLK: 3208 mhz
    QPI: 7218 MTs
    HT: On
    Everything else: Untouched

    Voltages:

    CPU Voltage: 1.32v
    PLL Voltage: 1.84v
    QPI Voltage: 1.3375v
    DRAM Voltage: 1.60v
    All other voltages: Untouched

    Notes:

Max temp 73c under Prime95 testing. Prime stable for 8 hours.

    ================================================== ==================================

Thats it, I just need the data. If you want to include other info or notes as well that would be fine. Hopefully all this will help us unlock the mysteries of the i7. Once I have a good amount of data collected I will compile it, test, and of course share all the results. And if any other members would like to take the data and run tests of their own that would be great as well. Thanks to everybody in advance for donating your info

    here are mine

200*21 Turbo enabled = 4.2 GHz HT on

    Batch # 3839A403

Voltages, I was able to turn all voltages down and still run stable, this was just benching settings at first. The only voltage that stayed untouched was the CPU voltage

    CPU vcore - 1.35v
    CPU VTT - +300
    CPU PLL - AUTO
    Dimm V - 1.65v
    DIMM DQ - +0
    QPI PLL - 1.4v
    IOH v - 1.4
    IOH/ICH I/O - 1.65v
    ICH - 1.250

Well looks like you beat me to this. I've been parsing the 80+ page i7 page for batch # info and what clocks/volts they got. I'm fairly close to be doing with it too. I'll probably finish it up tomorrow night and toss it up here anyway if people think it's worth having.

But not Prime blend? I have to raise my voltage up a bit for that (usually QPI voltage also) vs LinX testing. I bet the system would be stable 99% of the time if you are LinX stable though.

Edit: I found out I was using just too little memory with LinX to test properly. I had issues with it not loading the system fully because I was telling it to use too much memory. I just need to keep making it re-sync with what is available and use that as long as it's > 13000 problem size with my 4 gigs memory. I actually needed a single step bump for LinX stability for my current OC target because my voltage was still sagging a bit only under LinX. The single step voltage bump kept the load voltage where it was on Prime blend for 11 hours and it was then fine on LinX with the proper memory usage. I will post settings.

Thanks for compiling that data Avan. Unfortunately my data for 3.8ghz is wrong as I was still working on the OC and being bad and posting early out of excitement. I needed one more bump in voltage because I was testing with LinX improperly. My problem size was too small by about 3000. Here are my complete settings:

Okay, I'll grab the info from this thread and the batch # thread and update the list tonight when I get home. I don't have the compiled list here at work or I'd do it now.

No worries. Thanks for the effort. My P6T post is here:

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...postcount=2464

HIGHEST STABLE OC - 4.0 Ghz @ 1.3125v Prime95 blend stable for 11+ hours. QPIv = 1.225v. DRAMv = 1.6v. Everything else set on Auto. Max temps are 93/92/89/87.

I have been trying increments of 1 BCLK, but so far everything is crapping out in prime. Sometimes 2 hours, sometimes 10 minutes...

I'm curious what the ambient temperature was for those readings, fan models (and rpm)/radiator(s) used, and the orientation of your EK-Supreme.

    I hit 89C in an 18C ambient @ 4.2ghz on a TRUE. I'm hitting 89C in a 25C ambient @ only 3.990 ghz. I'm still planning my first WC loop.
