EVGA is an award-winning company[1][2] that primarily produces NVIDIA based
consumer computer hardware.[3] Founded in July of 1999, it is currently
    headquartered in Brea, California.

    6. PSU: Corsair HX1000W
    7. Cooling: Watercooling

as you can see the 285 is a little bit different of 280, with the evga version
the back actually is uncovered, unlike the 280, this for me was a surprise.
and explains too the price tag diference beetween 280 and 285.

this card needs both a 6-pin and 6-pin power connector, unlike the 280 that demands 6-pin and 8-pin power conector

Nvidia really scores in the cooling department, 36ºc idle for such a hughe
chip like GT200 even being 55nm, because this chip doesn't seem to suffer a size drop from de 65nm version

i've step both cards at same Clocks 621MHz // 2270MHz // 1357MHz, same bios config (voltages, frequencies) and runned at very same conditions, and the results are:

    EVGA GTX280: 17038 marks
    EVGA GTX285: 17477 marks

as you can see, and i can't explain why but cpu score more 71 marks
    and the total diference: 439

i'll try this test later but overclocking GPU & CPU, to make sure
    that this scores are real.

I would like to know if all the mounting holes are the same as gtx 280. Will the same FC water blocks fit? MCW60 still fit?

I was looking into stepping up for the GTX 285 but realized that the memory chips not being on the back end will get in the way of any full cover plates so it's different from GTX 260/280 in that way. But least new full cover blocks won't need a backplate. (I should have waited)

But chip only blocks like the MCW60 might still work as long as the mounting holes are the same.

    eh
two of these would kick a single gtx295
but the price is 50% more for 2

one thing i have to say this cards are pretty cool
running them in malaysian whether in sli temps on idle is around 42-44
load is around 57-59 on crysis. for both cards all on default 40% fan speed.

the heatsink on the side vent is pretty warm on the touch
    but the pcb is not..

major improvement compared to the gtx280 i had.

Got my EVGA 295 in today. Just thought i would post a couple of bench's.. It's one sick card. It's loud as hell at 100% Fan speed

This is the Standard Performance run of 3dMark Vantage with Physix

This is 3DMark Vantage Performance with Physix Disabled

And finally this is 3DMark 06

These are just my first benchmarks. I have not attempted to overclock it to it's max yet. I'll soon figure out what this baby can do. I can't wait to put it on water. Those pics of K1ngp|N's 295's running at 1000 Mhz on LN2 makes me think this card has a lot in it with a few modifications.

    It does.
If you've got the iron, there's a quick vmod you can solder on without even unfolding the pcbs. OVP at 1.3v though. Only gets ~760 core.

So it scores a bit worse than 2 moderately oc'd gtx-260s

750MHz on core for 24/7 possible without volt modding...hmmm

Can't wait untill Thermalright will introduce a HR03-xx for the GTX285.
