Post First pics of Asus Rampage 2 Extreme (X58)

    edit: Retail board:

    ---

    Hi,

Just posted first public pics of Asus new Rampage 2 Extreme motherboard (X58) for Core i7 processors:

    More on Muropaketti.com: http://plaza.fi/muropaketti/ensikuva...emolevysta-x58

    - 16 phases for CPU

    - 3 phases for QPI/VTT

    - 3 phases for memory

    - 3 st PCIEx 16X

    - Crossfire/SLI: 3 way SLI, Quad-SLI, 3-way CFX Quad CFX

    - Using all three slots it will be allocated like this: 16/8/8 pciex lanes

    - ExtremeOC consists of TweakIT (same as on rampage extreme) and ProbeIT.

    - ProbeIT makes it possible without soldering to measure different voltages with a multimeter (small connector will be included). To makes the readings more exact you can use the actual ground for the circuit.

    - Price: Alot

If you run that usb, it needs software = eats resource so scores may get cut I think

Actually now that I've looked at it for awhile a few things come to mind

    • Space is obviously an issue on this board
    • Moving the buttons to the back beside the ATX connector is gonna be a bit awkward to use - especially the probes?
    • The daughter card for the VTT and CPU power - how is that gonna affect feedback loop noise rejection?

What do you mean by "back"?
For most of us table top benchers that is the front (the other side has the cables and riser cards
In fact that location looks to be the best on the whole board - no vid cards or cables over the top

Even if it does it woudnt be worth it, 4GB sticks are slow... 6 2GB sticks at reasonable speeds instead would result in higher performance than 6 slow 4GB sticks.

It looks like this is first ever mother board addressed for professional overclockers.
I hope that other manufactures will pick up the idea and prepare similar offer.
I'm also sure that since OC starts to be business the price will be appropriate.

Also what other features should be included that are commonly missed, adjustable pot holders, build in pot insulation ?
