    Cooling BlackOps: Air & Water

Under heavy conditions, it's a good idea watering NB with CPU:

As a gaming rig, some fan coolers should also fit to BlackOps, thus i decided to try out some fan coolers last night. Noctua NH-U12P and Cooler Master Hyper Z600 are both fit to mobo without any issue and work prety good:

DuOrb is another choice and helps cooling whole body; DDR3s, Phases and some other chips, but doesn't fit easy and superpositions with NB and needs to be filed:

    Rig: E8600/BlackOps/KingstonHX14400/9800GX2SC/HighPower 1000W&560W/Twkd&Tnd&Light*XP/sum watering & fan stuff...

    UPDATE for NB Fan:

NOCTUA has just one position (not two!) without NB Fan issue:
But NOCTUA's fan should be very close to PSU Fan. Works good...

CoolerMaster's position without NB Fan issue:
U can use just one NB Fan screw. Works good...

DuOrb has just one position (not two!) without NB Fan issue:
    Works good...

    Well I'm an airhead,,
But the NB is an issue

I solved that with a thin fan..

What I'd like is a nice coolpipe heatsink to fit the side of the NB

Thanks, fittings and tubing are actually for high pressured air systems... I agree, seems beautiful...

Not easy to use an air cooling system on BlackOps, partly because of NB; it's snarling to aircooling systems like a watchdog...

    thanks for sharing gang!
nice fittings indeed, are they plug n play or how do you screw the hoses tight?

i added your infos to the cooling complatibility thread here:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=194190

what watercooling system are you using btw?
Id like to add it to the list as well, looks like swiftech? or Dtek from germany?

Yeah this board is seriously limited with big aircoolers, I don't recommend the Thermaltake Ultra120A to anyone with this board

Thermaltake Ultra120A, is it different from the ultra120?
im using it and our engineers too, tho we dont fully mount them since we swap cpus a lot
    whats the problem?

I think they're basically the same, the problem is the NB fan pushes the 120 Fan up a bit, and also using this heatsink the first blue ram slot is unusable and the clips for the fan push against the ram stick in the first slot... its just too big, i need a water kit

are you sure you can mount the fan a bit higher and then the 1st ram slot is usable and it fits with the nb as well?
    ill check tomorrow

The fan is already higher than it should be because of the fan on the nb, and its the side of the heatsink fins that are blocking the first ram slot.

If I mounted the heatsink 45 degrees I could use the first ram slot, but then the heatsink would be right on top of the nb and i wouldn't be able to use the fan (and it probably wouldn't even fit either)

it's Silverstone Tundra's WB (screwed/backplated)... actually i use EK Supreme-Acetal with LGA 775 montage kit and backplate...

btw, i have some other air cooling kits for testing in a few days...

Edit: BlackOps is very strong under LN2...

Hi Negev, if you turn your cooler round and use a thin fan on th NB you'll get access to the first meory slot, see I did this ;-

Looking good Gang, can you tell us what difference air and water makes to the NB temperatures on an identicle high-ish voltage, say 1.6-1.7v?

I'd be interested to know Thanks.

    are you using chilled water?

Use a thin fan on the Blackops nb? Lolz!! Mine already peaks at 66C with 1.6v which is **crazy** hot!

Anyone know if a 60mm fan would fit? I.e. can you use one screwhole at each end (lengthways) of the nb sink?

That's great I'm slumming it with some 'regular' water cooling here...

That's the reason i asked Gang to share his results, your NB is incredibly hot and if he has lower temps than you with a similar cooling solution on the NB then it could point to a problem elsewhere for you.

No sure if this is helpful, all on air - this is my 24x7 settings run IntelBurnTest, ambient was 26, and NB peaked at 53.

i have a LG airconditioner direct to mobo and regular ice or d-ice chilled water cooler.
Also have a d-ice/LN2 pot for MHz/3D tests...
Tec was my first chiller experience GPUs are stock but looking for a good wb...

Well i have my huge Ultra-120A very close to the NB so i guess heat from that could be affecting the NB.

Anyway its not so much of a problem anymore as I just got a wicked deal on a watercooling kit:

    Swiftech Apogee GTZ
    Swiftech MCP655
    Swiftech MCR320
    DangerDan G1/4 1/2" barbs
    Micro-micro res
    10 clamps
    EK 4870 waterblock
    FeserOne UV black Fluid

USD$220 plus my Geil DDR3 sticks Shame its gonna be three weeks for delivery though

Hey TheGang - what voltage do you run your NB at? Mine peaks at 66C when I pump 1.6v into it and ramp the fsb up to something like 416-423.

At 400x8 with 1.5v it idles at 48 peaks maybe 53C which matches your run which is the same fsb 400x8.

WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER!!!

SilverStone NT06 Evolution fan cooler has some big issues...

Noway with stock NB Fan, but choosing another thin Fan should be a good choice (as some people talk about there). Another choice; if we turn NT06, 90 degrees, it could help NB cooling too (not with high NB voltages). NT06 hasn't a fan in it's stock box, but with a FM123, they both make a good job for CPU and NB...
