Exclamation The Wolfdale Vtt ( FSB Termination ) game.Place your bet!

So I'm back in action with some CPUs designed to... die
We'll start with a Core 2 Duo E8500 "Wolfdale" core 45nm processor and the Asus Striker II Extreme.
This system will be my...temporary Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Crysis, and Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield online gaming rig for this... wee... wait, 'till it dies

I'm about to set the system up now, and I'll start with 1.6V FSB Termination Voltage ( VTT ) and a "reasonable" overclock with a ThermalRight Ultra-120.

According to the... VTT Myth anything over 1.4V is deadly.
How long do you think it'll last ?

I'm going to leave the PC running Folding@Home GPU ( and CPU maybe ? I have to check the CPU utilization from the 2 F@Hgpu instances first ) 24/7.
When I can/want to game I'll pause the F@H's and game on.
When I finish gaming the F@H's will be up and running again.
So this system and the CPU particularly will be fully utilized ( 100% ) 24/7.

If the CPU survives more than 7 days at this FSB Termination voltage I'll move on to 1.7V on the 8th day.

    Place your bets people

I leave mine on 1.1v. It goes up to 4.2GHz fine at that voltage. The maximum recommended by Intel is 1.115v for the Wolfdales, so I don't know how you could sleep nights at 1.6v? Smell that burning plastic??

Voted 2 days but I fear that it might stay alive for alot longer, that is if it's stable with that kind of voltage. I get serious instability with too high VTT.

Will you try PLL volts too? Maybe some thermal testing with 80C+ temperatures?

First few CPUs will be tested for VTT.
After I finish my... fun time with VTT I'll move on to Vpll

Knowing you sir Bill you will prolly kill the Striker before the CPU gives in... 12 days before it degrades and will produce errors

the winner get's ya messed up CPU ?
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

I voted 1 month - have seen Intel chips survive some crazy shiznit!

Personally I would have no issue with setting mine at 1.30max for 24/7 if I had to.

    2 seperate questions please-

hehe loco is truly insane i seen many many of his posts so this question will be good for him.

    @ loc0
question #1---whats the most extreme air voltage on a (45nm dual)8xxx chip u used and for what amount of time and what happened to it,any degration?overclocks not as hi etc after this electrocution u may have impaled on 1?lol?please give me indetail.

question #2--- my biostar i45 tpower mobo raises the fsb vtt automatically when i raise nb volts so setting to 1.224 nb = 1.24 fsb term for 3.6ghz.this is common knowledge for my board linking these two settings together(dont know why)guess aiding noobs in overclocks im thinking but not really liking it????cant change fsb term independtly period(any tips, bios, tweaks around this?).guessing fsb 1.24 is fine..? all my temps on water all seem good as u guys can see hopefully in pic, also included main link to see it clearly better.

    3.6ghz 1.28 volts cpu(set to auto) 450x8.5

same here my E8500 was running @1.4 VFSB for a long time now (3 month or more) , 0 problem and 0 degradation , this on p5b-e plus now the same on biostar Tpower I45
Moreover for some reason My Asus p965 gives automatically this processor 1.5 v (VFSB ) while i am over 500 mhz FSB , if i left the setting in auto.
So i can say that 1.5v also will not kill soon the E8500 at least for over one week loaded maybe , but some benching and long priming was done @ 1.5v (i was lazy to get in the bios and set this back to 1.4 v witch was plenty enough:-) )

railmeat : was is your max memory clock with CL 5 ?

Most likely will survive 1 month, or more than 1 month. If it survives from day 8 to day 14 on 1.7 vTT, will you again increase it to 1.8v on the 15th day and so on?

Honestly, at that voltage, you will probably be waiting awhile for it to die. You need choices up to 6 months at least at those voltages.

If you really want to kill it, set 2.0v vTT, and then your choices for the timescale of it's death will be more relevant.

I'd love to see high vCore + high Freq + high temps. 1.5vCore and 4.5+GHz under air and 100% load 24/7. Or then just stock w/o fan @ +90C 24/7. People say temps kill, I don't believe them. :p
