    Some 4870 Info

So I walked in to Micro Center today to buy a Accelero for my 4850 when I saw that they had the 4870's out today on display.

Some of the info you already know but the clocked speed for it is 770!

Most of you guys already know about the memory size and speed but this is the kicker, the card is selling for $239.

My jaw just dropped . I'm going to go in and get a refund on my 4850 for the 4870.

I really should of taken a picture of it with my cell phone but I had the sales associates hovering over me while I was looking at them. From what I saw the box said it had GDDR5 on it (as to promote it), it was a Visiontek and it was selling for $239.

Yeah they had the specs listed on a red piece of paper and it was on a endcap selling with ATI Wonders (thought they discontinued them). I asked my girl at to let me borrow the money and that I'd pay her back on Thursday .

So close. But the clocked speed of 770 was what got me.

maybe it was supposed to be $329 and the person that wrote the card was dyslexic. $239 sounds too good to be true - they'd sell out in a matter of minutes once word got out.

None yet at the Dallas store, but they're getting a truck in today. I'm betting it was a price mistake as well...either dyslexia or swapping the 4850 price with the 4870 price.

I called my local Microcenter a few minutes ago and they told me that they don't even have the 4870 in their system yet, let alone their stores.

I walked in yesterday and the boxes where out on the floor. This is the Houston store. I should of put the item on will call so I decided to call today. The girl that I talked to said "There is no 4870 in the system, sorry. I told her "I saw the video cards out on the floor by the ATI Wonder cards could you look that up?", "I'm not even on that side of the store...", "Could you go look at least...it's between the", "Hold on" *Put on hold*. She comes back and tells me they "used" to sell these cards, wtf?

I picked up the box and looked at it and it was heavy so I know the card was in there. So after work I'm going to head down there and buy it if they still have the card.

I'll take pics also once if I secure the package.

    Hello,
Microcenter prices are competitive and their product line cater more or less on the enthusiast's side. But their people are clueless and horrible with service skills. Indeed even the freaking phone system is horrible. I called in today and their phone system --- get this --- does not even ring--- it hangs up on me. THEN, when the y ( and no doubt fugly) customer service rep finally transferred me to the parts department, no one picks up the damn phone for 10 straight minutes. ***k Me. I know for sure they treat their employees like s*** and it shows. The sales staff get like minimum wage and make their living off commission. That's the only motivation they have to treat you nicely in person b/c they get to put their little sticker containing their names on the item you buy for sales credit. How do they stay in business like this?

    END RANT.

Sorry...MC in Tustin CA doesn't have any 4870. So n/e ways. N/E chance you might pick up an extra one and ship to me Tech Niques? My new BFF ?

Well I walked in yesterday and found 2 cards left on the floor but where the other ones go? They had at least 8 out. I told the sales rep there about the video card and he told me that the item was a "misprint" and that it was really for the Ati 3870.

I also mentioned that the red sign had 4870 in big letter and that is said 512MB GDDR5. He apologized and told me there would be no way he could sell me the card at that price even though they where in the wrong. So I mentioned to him that was fine but that they girl who worked yesterday was very unprofessional and if you're working on commission and I ask for one of you that she should transfer me instead of asking me repeatedly if she could help, then put me on hold and finally tell me no one was answering.

He said he'll mention it to the manager . Well I left there at least with an Accelero, Scythe and some mosfet coolers but all in all not a great experience. I can't complain about the sales associates on the floor as the guy let me choose what batch# I wanted for a q6600.
