    Quoting posts containing images

I find it tedious waiting for the same images to load over and over again when viewing a thread.

imho, it would be smart if posters removed the link when the quoted reply is on the same page as the original posted image. "imaged removed" in place of the link would be serve just as well.

Just my thoughts on this, what are yours?

Yep, they should be removed when quoting, unless you have a specific need for it.

The image only loads once, image quoting will not increase page load time. The image gets cached and the browser just uses that same cache each time the image is repeated.

The only time quoting images does is increase the length of the page

    You are absolutely correct.

Good job, I am sometimes smart enough in other areas not to feel stupid about this
Even so, it was very, very dumb of me not to realise this.

I think it's still visual pollution, especially given the size of some images you run across here. Also ruins my blackberry when browsing because it pulls my screen around in an unacceptable manner, but the software isn't exactly the greatest anyway...

I think it is a sign of mental laziness: it's just easier for the person quoting not to edit the links. I think it's poor form.

it's already cached in your comp .. what to complain?

sometimes .. it's clearer if the image quote is existant .. especially if you want to point out something in the pic .. flaw etc

The only way to prevent this is a third party mod, and XS doesnt use mods. Its all up to the people that quote, and the mods if they feel like editing.

That's why you delete the [IMG] [/IMG] from the link and just leave it in HTML. A user can easily just click it and look at what you were referring to.

I do agree with the OP. Having people quote images gets really annoying, especially if the original poster had 15+ images. Really taxes my Eee PC screen. :/

I absolutely agree on that. It's unbearable when people, especially in build logs, quote a few words from a poster, and include tens of pics in the quote...that makes the thread unreadable and of course longer and longer to load, when it's so easy to delete the img strings before posting.

See that's about how much fun a quote full of pics is....

Just don't do it. Quote THE pic that you thought was awesome...not all 28 of them...it's easy.

I agree. I also hate, though its not b/c of loading, some of the monster faucking sigs that reside at this place. Jesus mods, some people's posts are ALWAYS smaller than their signature b/c its so big!
