You guys see any of these reviews???

A buddy of mine was IM'ing me last night as he bought this board, and he said he went to reboot, but accidently hit shut down, so when he tried to start it wouldnt, he tried a few things, a few diffrent PSU's, long story short.

Heres the chip that gave up the magic smoke:

You guys hear about others doing this???? Could it be a problem you think????

Also, he didnt have it clocked at all, and hasnt had it long at all.....

There are so many possible causes of an electrical short that would damage that transformer...are we sure the board itself was at fault for it's own demise?

Not booting after a simple freeze? Weird, are u sure its the board that is the problem here and not the cpu/ram? And have u cleared CMOS via jumper?

I'm surprised to see a fairly well-built 5-phase mobo blow a mosfet. Though you didn't tell us what CPU and powersupply your friend was using. Is the mosfet itself burnt or did you test it with a multi-meter? And what type of cooling did you have in that area?

EDIT: Wow. Those Newegg reviews really are shocking! Too many to just be a coincidence or user error.

He had a 9850, the PSU was a 600 some watt ANTEC. Yes it burnt, the magic smoke came right out of it, literally....
