My watercooled Stacker 831 :) *worklog

After 2 years with SFF cases im missing the space, so I bought a stacker 831 for my gaming rig and let the gf to use the Fragbox2 to watch movies
    Here's the spec:
    Q6600 G0 3.6Ghz 1.34v
    P5k-E Wifi
    4x1GB ballistix
    XFX 8800GTX
    HDA Xplosion7.1
    150GB Raptor + 500GB WD AAKS+300GB maxtor
    Corsair HX620

    Cooling:
D-tek Fuzion with quad nozzle/pro mount
MCW60/D-TEK Fuzion (havent decide whch to use) with 8800gtx uni-sink
    2x EK mosfet block
    DD MPC NB block
DDC 3.2 18W with XSPC Res top
    PA120.3 + 3x S-flex f fans
    4x Thermaltake CL-0028 Ram cooler
    Thermalright HR-05-SLI/IFX for SB

    This is the case

And I love the new DD fatboy barbs, looks amazing!

I have got the jigsaw delivered so im finally started to mod my case

I cut the top section of the case and will be mounting the pa120.3 there. The cut out is a little shorter than the pa120.3 so I may need a grill for it to make it easy to remove when needed.

by the way, are these pics with watermark of another forum ok? let me know if it against the forum rule i'll use other host

I have just put the ram cooling together. I bought 4 CL-R0026 and 4 CL-R0028 so I can use the heatsink form the 0026 with the heatpipe from the 0028.

I flushed the waterblocks with distilled water and installed the barbs.

*Im not impressed with the quality of the EK waterblocks, the fitting holes are not tapped properly on both of the mosfet waterblocks.

Then took the 8800gtx apart and fitted the uni-sink and waterblock. I went with the fuzion cos it's easier for fitting and goes well with other acrylic top blocks. I used martin's flow rate estimator and im getting 1.25gpm, so still in a acceptable range

Had some probs with the mpc NB waterblock. The two fitting holes on the mb is very close and the nut comes with the fitting kit is too thick, the block sits on the nuts and cannot touch the core of the NB. Luckily I found 2 very thin nuts in my tool box and finally make the waterblock sits on the core. Then found out the compression spring is sitting on the screw of the waterblock, making an uneven pressure to the acrylic top. so I made a "C" washer to bypass the prob

The SB cooler fitting is touching the uni-sink as shown in the last pic, I 'll make a quick fix and cutting the mb tray today.

    test running

Leak tested last night all seemed ok. so I connected only the neccesary components to see how it performs. tbh im a little disappointed, the cpu idles @ 42 42 36 42 1.344v, and the gpu is @ 34.5C stock settings. I'll try to mount the cpu block again see if it's a bad mount.

I have not finished mounting the radiator, it is now sitting on the psu frame. I'll make a brake and lift it up a little bit so its level with the two corner bracket on the sides. and the radiator is pretty easy to take out if I want to change the fluid, it slides out with the mb tray if I take the psu mounting plate off.

I'm thinking of adding a acrylic or a mesh to cover the radiaotr, or leave it as it is. what do you think?

The PSU is currently double-sided to the case vertically. I'm thinking to cut a 120mm hole on the bottom of the case and mount it horizonly, so the psu can pull cold air from the bottom and exhaust the hot air to the front. but I have to cut off one side of the 5.25" mounting bracket as the psu is a few mm's wider.

Here's how the front looks now, I will be mounting an optical drive under the fan controller and my raptor under the silverstone HDD cage with a silencer.

Still have to fingure out a way to hide the main power cord and I 'll route it to the back through the case. and some cable management waork when I receive the sleeves.

You have a 3 x 12mm rad cooling a quad (and MOSFETs), northbridge, and an 8800GTX? Can you get another rad in there somewhere? Overkill being the line of thought, you may want a little extra surface area to dissipate all that heat. And yeah, I'm wondering if the CPU block needs to be remounted. Does it wiggle at all?

How well is the mobo tray held in? It's hard to tell from the pics.

for the rad back part, mesh it...
for the psu, yah cut a 120hole and mount it properly...

what mixture did you use to get that violet/purple stuff...

iirc, you can put the fans on top of the rad and make it a push config instead of pull config, right? and still have enough room for the top panel to fit in.

furthermore, you should be able to push the radiator forward a bit more...
then maybe your mb tray does not have to stay open and you can close it.

or, why not use elbows and put the in/out-let on the front of the case?

    just some thoughts...

Thanks for the comments and suggestions I have re-mounted the cpu and gained 2c better temp. Also I noticed real temp and core temp are reporting different temps. Real Temp reports 35 35 30 35 idle@ 1.344v and coretemp shows 5c more on each core, which should I believe? the gpu idles @ 34.5 stock settings.

Yes I can add another pa120 at the rear 120mm exhaust fan or a mcr220 at the bottom. but i may need another pump for the extra restriction?

eh? the mobo tray is fitted/held in at where it suppose to be, im not changing anything.

if I want the psu to be fitted with the 120mm fan facing the bottom I need to cut the 5.25" cage as well. i may keep it like this for a while as i have enough room for hdd/optical atm.
I using the feserOne pre-mix fluid

The PA120.3 comes with instruction saying it;s better with pull config iirc? do you rekon if I fit the fans on top of the radiator to make a push config it will help my temp?
Sorry for the misleading picture of the mobo tray and radiator hanging out side the case, I took that picture to show that the radiator can slide out from back. The mobo tray can be pushed to the closed position and locked with the pins.

OK, a little update on my build. Somehow I killed my mobo when I tried to power it up with a screw driver :S I took the opportunity to upgrade, got a DFI UT X48 coming next week while im waiting my new mobo, I cut the case and fitted the PSU at the front bottom. So the PSU is only taking 2 5.25" bays now and will be hidden when i fit the mesh cover. Here's how it looks now

I'm guessing the screwdriver touched the two pins to power on the board but slipped and scraped across the board with the power on ?
