WD6400AAKS vs Samsung HD642JJ

Hi! I want to change my old WD hard drives (250gb & 320gb both raid edition) with one, maybe two 640gb disks. I was not able to find some compare tests which one is better. I prefer the WD, but the Samsung is about 20€ cheaper. So if someone has some experience, please help

Thanks

Greets!

I say wait for the 320gb samsung f1 drives to come out and raid 0 those, that'll be at or higher than raptor performance

Are there any news which one of those two disk is better? I saw one post on one other forum, and the user said that the WD was better. Tnx! Greets!

PS: The Price in Europe is almost the same...

Here are my 2 Samsungs. 640GB (320GB platter). I'm using matrix RAID so the total of space is only 850GB. 200GB for RAID1. First pic is 8mb and 2nd is 32mb test. Tested with Vista SP1 with my rig.

Single and RAID0 - WD6400AAKS -

Mobo: 680i eVGA

Drive # 1 / Drive # 2 /RAID0 :

Looks like WD is a bit faster with its lower access time

Idle noise with the Samsung F1 drives is incredibly low, lower than anything in that market except maybe for the WD GP drives, but they suck performance-wise.
But you do recognize HDD access very clearly with the F1.

Hi Everyone,

I'm buildign a new rig and I would say 99% of the time, I will be playing games. On my current rig, I have about 250GB of games installed. So I'm thinking about this configuration:

Two 250GB 32MB cache ES.2 Seagates in RAID 0 with the 640 AAKS WD as a backup drive.

Is that a good idea?

I think it's a great idea! But you can buy 2x320Gb WD Single platter and the 640 for storage.

Are the single platter 320GB WD drives faster than the 32MB 250GB seagates?

My F1s are very quite and vibration are quite low compared to my old Seagate 7200.10 250GB which is the noisiest part in my rig along with LG DVD burner.

are all WD 3200AAKS single platter?
i think there are currently mostly 160GB per platter, with the same naming scheme.

also; i wonder whether there are any 6400AAKS that do NOT have 320GB platters?

They don't advertise which ones have the new platters, so atm it's luck of the draw which you get as WD/Retailers want to clear old stock.

I wouldn't think so.

3200AAKS has a much higher seek time compared to the 640GB version. It cannot be adjusted.

You. Imageshack could have been down when you tried though.
